Hi
@BRF ,
I have never tipped the front desk at a Mexican resort at check in .We also have always accepted the unit given
I have tipped the front desk for other reasons over the course of a stay. One time at a resort in Puerto Vallarta we were upgraded
to a larger unit without asking .[ I believe the larger unit became available because someone checking in did not want to be in that specific building # 6]
I subsequently tipped the front desk person.
We do tip the housekeeping staff [ 80-100 pesos a day] I also try to make sure the housekeeper who fills in for others on their day off gets tipped.
We were at Raintree Club Regina Puerto Vallarta a couple of weeks ago via RCI.The unit's weekly housekeeper had Thursday off and two
young ladies working together did the cleaning - mopped the floors and replaced towels that day . We tipped them 70 pesos each and they seemed
thrilled. [ My guess is that their pay is about 300 pesos a day / I base this on a hiring sign I saw in 2025 at a Puchugon Rotisserie Chicken store ]
Here is my take on room assignments during peak season for any resort anywhere .
[For Puerto Vallarta / Mexico this includes all of snowbird season and especially February]
The room assignments are dependent on who checked out of what units that morning !!
At the Puerto Vallarta Raintree Club Regina there are many members staying for multiple weeks; and so
their units [which likely include the Raintree Blue units] only become available every 3-8 weeks.
Our best room assignment ever was about 4 years ago when we checked into the Mayan Palace PV Marina location in February
PS -My wife had just turned down the presentation while I was doing the front desk paperwork. We were assigned a 4th floor one bedroom overlooking the beach
[ Note: those units uniquely have 3 sliding balcony doors to let in the breeze and are one bedrooms only with no lock-off hotel room next door]
I can only assume other check-ins were for 2 bedrooms or hotel rooms and so we got lucky.
