Can anyone please confirm whether this is correct or not please.

'what you might find is that on many occasions in order to avoid a fee, the reservations are not booked in the name of the people travelling, they are booked in the name of the owner, which causes some problems, not least of which being people do not have a booking in their name..

It relates to timeshares in Hawaii.

Thank you

What is the context of this quotation? Where is it from?

If a person is checking in and the res is not in their name, of course there is a likelihood that there could be a problem.

If an owner is having someone else check in, I think that in most cases that it is just a matter of the owner calling the timeshare and having the name changed.

But if a person has an exchange (not an owner) and then have a 3rd party try to check in, there is a high likelihood of a problem. Interval and RCI require that a guest certificate be acquired/purchased. Neither allow an exchange to be sold/rented.

When an owner rents their timeshare, the standard procedure is to get a new confirmation in the guest's name, and send it to the guest. The guest can then call the resort directly to confirm. Yes, in some cases there is a fee for the reservation, but that's just part of the cost and should not impede a smooth transfer between 2 parties who know what they are doing. BTW, this has nothing to do with Hawaii - guest confirmation fees depend in the resort system - not the state.
