Probably asked and answered but couldn't find it. Assuming no extensions granted by Bonvoy, do you need to use/occupy or just book your package hotel stay within a year after purchasing with points?

The package must be used by the expiration date on the certificate.

I, and I believe others, have had success in requesting and receiving a one year extension on a 5 night certificate.

We were able to extend one once about 9 months ago, but I called back today to see if I could get a one month extension because my husband has to have an elective surgical procedure (our expires in April) and the answer was an absolute no. Fair enough, those are the rules but they were definitely a lot less flexible since the last time that I called them. YMMV of course but I thought that I would offer my recent experience as a data point.

I extended ours in June and was told I would not be able to extend it again. As the above post, it seemed like there were no exceptions after being given one extension.

Over the years I have had several single extensions and one double extension on our 5 Night Packages, but not recently so it seems like they are now tightening up on applying the rules.

A couple of weeks ago, I called to apply a 5-night cert expiring 7.20.2020 to a reservation beginning 7.28.2020. I didn’t mention dates and they made it happen. After it was confirmed I asked about extending my other two. Agent said no, but implied that exceptions are made. I would think getting an exception to apply to a confirmed registration is easier than a blanket request for a one year extension.
