We're going to be taking the Auto-Train in December and will be staying somewhere north of the Keys the night before. We can stay wherever, and won't have a ton of time, but if there is someplace interesting en route, that would help us decide where. We've got a 6 and 7 year old with us.

If they get your car off the train by around 10:00, you could go anywhere from Disney World to the Kennedy Space Center to Ft Lauderdale or just drive all the way down to Key Largo. The Florida Turnpike runs just about from Key Largo to Orlando. Or just take I95 south, depending on your schedule. They will give you a map for either route on the train.

The U.S. Spacecenter in Titusville is worth considering. You could hop right back on I-95 and be in Key Largo in a few hours.

Thanks. I'm actually looking for the northbound trip (leaving Key Largo heading up to Sanford). These things will work either way though. I'm going to check them out.
