Westgate Orlando
Hi folks. First time poster. Just found this site doing some research.

We bought into a Westgate condo in Orlando last year with the "understanding" of being able to sell back our Interval getaway weeks. Yeah, right. So far, we were scammed last year on the "buybacks" but got our money back because we knew how to do that through the credit card services. Now, they just don't give up. I got another call just this morning from the Grand Vacations Club in Orlando, not the Hilton one. I grilled the guy who called and after he insisted on his legitimacy with the only "real" calls I'd get being from either Westgate, Interval or them, he proceeded to tell me exactly what I wanted to hear. I could sell all of my 6 weeks back for at least $1400/week after buying them to resell for $399/each. I'd just have to give them a maximum of 90 days. Sound familiar to any of you good folks? It's the same crap we've been being fed since we bought. What is hysterical is that several months ago, I called both Westgate and Interval customer service departments and they BOTH told me that such a thing doesn't exist. The vacation weeks for $399/week do but selling them for corporate use for at least $1400 isn't real. I told Julio all this, the Club guy and the fellow he transferred me to Kevin Oyola,, that and they both deflected it saying they were misinformed and apparently so are me and the wife.

Ok, so here's my question? I'm in law enforcement and worked for a DA for 7 years previously to now. I'm not a spring chicken but we did get drawn down the primrose path. I guess nobody's immune if the right things get said and done and they are good. The red flags just didn't go off. Maybe I'm just too old now and lost my edge. The condo is legit by the way. So, if Florida has the scammer laws on the books as the fellow who calls himself an investigator on here has quoted, why do these leeches still prey on condo owners with apparent immunity? Why do I get calls from "businesses" who call themselves legitimate resellers of the weeks still every so often and they are obviously well versed on what to say to fleece the public? I get some of them likely change their names and addresses to avoid prosecution, but with this being as obviously pervasive as it is, why is the state not more active on investigation and prosecution? You know that this sh*t is hurting the state and tourism and it makes no sense. Is it a failing of the state legislature? Or is it just a free for all in Florida? I'd hate to believe that as we like Florida and I wouldn't mind relocating there some day and even just becoming snowbirds sooner than later. I have friends there.

It's just frustrating and if these all are BS, I just don't want any more calls.

Rant over.

Unfortunately fast-talking scams, hormswoggles, bamboozles are a widespread trait of timeshares & related matters -- not just the outright ripoffs but also the stretchers and fibs slung across those little salesroom tables by company representatives eager to collect a commission for selling a timeshare week for $25,000 or so that could be purchased for peanuts via eBay, TUG, etc. That stuff, unfortunately, rubs off & taints the whole enterprise.

A saving grace is that TUG is here to counter the razzle-dazzle & ballyhoo with straight talk based on knowledge that comes from experience -- meaning that if we're fortunate enough to connect early with TUG, we don't all have to learn about the bad stuff the hard way.

This scam has existed for a long time. They all try to reach into your pocket to lighten (steal) your hard earned money.

Tell them up front that you no longer own a credit card. They will just hang up on you as all they want is your authorization for get paid immediately.

Another way to deal with this? Tell them to go ahead and rent your getaway and send you the proceeds minus their fee. They'll hang up quickly!

To a point

, same difference.
Immunity is a legal status granted by a system, while impunity is a lack of accountability that arises from the system's failure to enforce laws or punish wrongdoing.
To some its a mute (mistake intended) point.

Westgate told you you could sell your Interval Getaways?

Scams against older people are increasing year over year
There does not seem to be an emphasis on investigating these crimes unfortunately
It has always been a "buyer beware" world
The need to be aware is even greater as time goes on
