The recent silver market

I began buying gold 14 months ago, and bought mroe and more thru last summer, so I'm glad to see the PMs rise, but here is one of the many strange stretches in how gold bugs discuss this. Stated:
A) #1 reason for GOLD to rise is buying by central banks
B) Silver is increasingly more of an industrial and strategic metal
C) The idea of a constant known as the GOLD:SILVER ratio makes perfect sense.

Seriously, maybe the #1 rule of good INVESTING is to understand when you're actually just TRADING. I think the G:S ratio should = 3.1416

More like phi 1.61803 , golden ratio. Or phi into pi 3.1416 and a sacred pyrimad . 🤑

When both were primarily monetary metals, a gold to silver ratio made some sense, but when 65% of silver is going to industrial uses, that changes the game and what a ratio has been in the past no longer carries much weight. It was not many years ago that only 30% of silver went to industrial uses.

Central banks have always been the whales in buying (or selling) gold. Last year they bought a record amount, after being on a buying spree for several years. During this time, they have also been gradually dumping all fiat currencies. Holdings of dollars are down, but so are euros, yen, yuan, pounds, etc. The reasons for that behavior do not seem about to change, but might even accelerate.

With demand outstripping mine supply for the last five years, growing, and projected to continue to do so, the supply / demand dynamics continue to look good. The Bloomberg Commodities Index rebalancing may offer a buying opportunity in the next week or two but price movement today does not look like it is happening so far. Silver is up about 4% today so far
Wouldn't the professionals be getting the same information that you do and adjusting the market price accordingly to account for industrial demand?

Something I forgot about was the sterling silver we ended up with. We never use it. Its 925 silver. My guess is 72 pieces. My guess is the 999 weight is between 80 and 120 troy ounces.

This sterling silver set was bought in the 50s at the Bon Marche. The reason we dont use it is it cant go into the diswasher says my wife.

Its hallmarked and kind of fancy. Weight wise as junk it might be worth around $5000 + which isnt a good enough reason to sell it.

A conflict might be a good enough reason. If the past is an indicator of what might happen , my own kids might have a problem with the others having it. No one would use it anyway.

We also have sterling silver flatware in a nice wooden case.
The grandchildren will probably melt it down when the economic depression occurs

Tell your wife that your kids aren't going to want any of your junk. Best thing you can do for them is to purge most everything yourself.

Of course. That is what is driving prices up. The paper silver market can only play games with price for a short while.
