I live on eastcoast so Cancun, Bahamas and other Caribbean islands are my frequent destinations for vacation.
It is the first time in Cabo which is on westcoast of Mexico and now I understand why people love this place for vacation.

1) not much commercialized (over built) yet - there are still small residence areas between big resorts and you can see where all those employees are living from the main driveway

2) weather is sunny all day long and sunset is fantastic - even though it's windy and quite chilly at morning and night, still you can see sun all day. Sunset is beautiful because big buildings are not blocking your view and anywhere on or near the beach, you can see wonderful sunset

3) everything is cheap here - most recommended restaurants, tours, fishing, even dining in your room (room service) are cheap. Yesterday, I was so tired after fighting with that disgusting girl (Zitlalli) in PB sunset beach front desk. My son and I were not in the mood of eat outside (imagine he was sitting on the chair next to check-in area for over an hour while mama was arguing with Zitlalli at front desk), we agreed to order something good and VERY sweet dessert for dinner in room.
We ordered 2 dinner entree and two deserts and meal arrived an hour later.
For everything I ordered, it was just over $35! It is less than what I paid for one entree in room service for most of the hotels/resorts.
A guy who delivered food asked me to sign on the receipt, which had 15% tip was included, but I added $5 more on it and gave him $5 cash for his service. Still I was happy and it made me feel much better after all that hassles with front desk (Zitlalli). Of course, the food was great and my son and I finished everything.

Flight was quite expensive, it was around $800 for one person from D.C, similar price to go to Hawaii, but these cheap food, tour and great weather pay off expensive flight.
If it was in Bahamas, one meal at Atlantis for one person would cost easily $60 - $70.

I didn't cook one meal here, but still in my budget. I budgeted for food and dining according to my other Caribbean trips. In Cabo, it's way cheaper than most Caribbean resorts.

I went to Whale Watching today, it was a very fast boat through Cabo Adventure. For 2 people, it was $85. For 3 hour tour, it's cheap!

I reserved sunset cruise tomorrow, they will serve Lobster dinner for my son and shrimp for me, and altogether, it's $110.
I paid almost $100 for one person for sunset cruise in Thailand and Caribbean.

My conclusion is, even if the flight is expensive to get here, food and sightseeing, tours are cheap, so still it would cost the same or cheaper than visiting Caribbean.
Would I visit here again? Yes, but not after this place is being commercialized like Cancun.
I like Cabo as the way it is now and I arrived here 3 days ago :)

"Marlin Capital of the World"

We enjoy the fishing, and the rough and rugged terrain (love to hike, horseback ride) and the whole "desert meets the sea" thing.

Also, the sister city San Jose Del Cabo is a short drive away and gives you a completely different feel.

And if you want to experience the way Baja used to be and a very desirable place to relocate, check out La Paz. Gorgeous! Now I will have to be simmered in oil for divulging this secret. http://www.la-paz-bcs.com/

I'm so glad you are having a great time in spite of the unpleasantness you've experienced with the front desk manager. We've always had a wonderful vacation in Cabo every year when we use our timeshare at Pueblo Bonito Rose, which we've owned since 1998.

It's relaxing & you can be as active or as lazy as you want to be. There's something for everyone. The people are friendly, the weather is great, and there always seems to be something new to see each year.

Reasons I like Cabo - in no particular order:

It's where the desert meets the ocean
Warm and sunny days, cool nites, no humidity and it seldom rains
Beautiful sunrises above Medano Beach
Wonderful sunset cruises
The friendly people
Unlaxing all day long
Direct flights from Minneapolis
Only a one hour time zone difference
2for1 all day long at Tabascos on Medano Beach
Sitting in the hot tub at happy hour
Listening to the house band at Cabo Wabo sipping a Waborita
Dos XX's @ Slim's Elbow Room
Sharing great times with good friends
Dinner under the tiki torches at The Office
The tequila shrimp at Alexanders
The chalkboard at La Golindrina
Golfing...@Diamonte
It's as Mexican as you want...or as American as you need
It's safe
I don't have to drive...but I can if I want
Walking the Marina
Knowing San Jose is just up the corridor...I haven't been yet...but it's waiting for me to explore
The view from Medano Beach the days there are no cruise ships
Whale watching from my balcony
Great food @ Edith's, Los Tres Gallos, Hacienda Cucina, Missiones De Kinos and others
Fun times @ Mi Casa, Panchos and many others
Pacifico, Dos XX's, Modelo
Breakfast for lunch at the Medano Beach Club
Bumping into a fellow tugger by accident
My favorite beach/pool waiters - Gilberto, Raymundo, Jesus
The bell hops who know EVERYTHING...
Playing the timeshare game (...only a little)
The smile on my SO's face when she gets a "great deal"
Knowing I'll be back in November ... and February

Safe travels.

Ha bob, the chalkboard @ golondrina comment made me laugh. Everyone we take there ends up staring at it forever trying to decide.

To the OP, take shuttle to rose, walk out of gates and go left, turn right at next side street after the golf and masage stand, enter open gates on the right - awesome outdoor restaraunt "Las Golondrinas", not cheap .. but delicious.

Las Golondrinas is a great place. But, the directions given are off by one street. When you turn left after exiting the main gate at the Rose, go right on the second side street you come to. The first side street will lead to the back side of City Club. The second side street leads to the main entrance of City Club, and Las Golondrinas is right before the City Club on the right.

You got it!

"cabo" is kind of a large area, with range of development density, and there are areas that are much less developed, even including the developments of punta mita and mayakoba

and there are definitely expensive places, at/around the most expensive resorts and real estate

How far is Pueblo Bonito Sunset Beach from downtown?

What about Hacienda del Mar?

the free shuttle from PBSB to PB Rose passes through downtown to go to rose. The whole trip takes about 10 to 15 minutes on a slow driving bus that goes real slow over speed bumps. Before you ask, no you cant get off while passing through downtown.

Hacienda del mar is on the corridor, so car is recommended

ya, 5 to 10 minutes. Its a 2 to 3 mile drive. we usually took the shuttle to rose, walked into town via the road or sometimes used the beach route to marina. Then take the cab back, either cause we were full and lazy or because it was too late for shuttle.

I dont look at my watch often on vavcation, so my minutes may be off a few, but fwiw its less than 5 miles from pbsb to rose, with downtown starting about the halfway mark.Thinking about it may take closer to 20ish minutes via the shuttle, I'm often too busy chatting up strangers.

We just want to stay close to town so it's easy to go out dining, we don't want to be far out on the corridor... I see RCI has pretty good availability for holiday weeks, thinking to book spring break or Christmas/New Year for a trip with kids.

PBSB has three nice restaurants in here, but after 2-3 days, you will be bored for the menu.
I prefer visiting recommended restaurants on TUG and trappers list, and you need to get a taxi if you don't like walking 15-20 minutes (from rose to town).
Taxi is $10 for one way from/to PB sunset beach.
If I come back to Cabo, I would stay in PB Rose or Casa Dorada at medano beach.

Another good choice would be Pueblo Bonito Los Cabos, also known as the Blanco, which is right next door to the Rose. It's a smaller resort, but is very nice and when you stay at one of the PB resorts, you can use the amenities of any of them. yumdrey, you might want to try Cilantro's for lunch one day at the Blanco. It's location overlooking Medano Beach is great.

I always use the shuttle from PBSB to Rose. It's easy enough and if I miss teh return shuttle, its easy to grab a cab.

Cabo

Cabo is wonderful, most all the people are real friendly there. Great food and all the little bars that are there that are really fun. February and the end of October, best times to go.

I love Cabo san Lucas!

The weather is absolutely perfect! No humidity and sunshine all day long.
Day trips to San Jose are fun, I am looking to rent at least a week there next time. I love the little restaurants all over the city and especially on Hidalgo Avenue. Lobster, yum! Gordo Lele tacos and the fresh fruit vendors which are all over the city. Lovely beaches to walk. If you want a festive, busy atmosphere there is Medano Beach; if you want more solitude go to the Pacific Side. Absolutely beautiful. And don't forget it is the Marlin capitol of the world. Can't wait for our next trip!

Caboholics!!

Once you go to Cabo there is just no way to get it out of your head You come back home and dream about the next time you will be going back to Cabo. You can't focus on work and other daily activities. You are drawn to Facebook all day long to check out what all the other Caboholics are doing. We have already placed our request for next year's trip and I just can't wait!

La PAz

I actually live in La Paz.. and you know what I like about it... No all inclusives :)
I don't think there are even timeshares... I go to Cabo to get my fix every so often... great timeshares there.
