I live on eastcoast so Cancun, Bahamas and other Caribbean islands are my frequent destinations for vacation.
It is the first time in Cabo which is on westcoast of Mexico and now I understand why people love this place for vacation.
1) not much commercialized (over built) yet - there are still small residence areas between big resorts and you can see where all those employees are living from the main driveway
2) weather is sunny all day long and sunset is fantastic - even though it's windy and quite chilly at morning and night, still you can see sun all day. Sunset is beautiful because big buildings are not blocking your view and anywhere on or near the beach, you can see wonderful sunset
3) everything is cheap here - most recommended restaurants, tours, fishing, even dining in your room (room service) are cheap. Yesterday, I was so tired after fighting with that disgusting girl (Zitlalli) in PB sunset beach front desk. My son and I were not in the mood of eat outside (imagine he was sitting on the chair next to check-in area for over an hour while mama was arguing with Zitlalli at front desk), we agreed to order something good and VERY sweet dessert for dinner in room.
We ordered 2 dinner entree and two deserts and meal arrived an hour later.
For everything I ordered, it was just over $35! It is less than what I paid for one entree in room service for most of the hotels/resorts.
A guy who delivered food asked me to sign on the receipt, which had 15% tip was included, but I added $5 more on it and gave him $5 cash for his service. Still I was happy and it made me feel much better after all that hassles with front desk (Zitlalli). Of course, the food was great and my son and I finished everything.
Flight was quite expensive, it was around $800 for one person from D.C, similar price to go to Hawaii, but these cheap food, tour and great weather pay off expensive flight.
If it was in Bahamas, one meal at Atlantis for one person would cost easily $60 - $70.
I didn't cook one meal here, but still in my budget. I budgeted for food and dining according to my other Caribbean trips. In Cabo, it's way cheaper than most Caribbean resorts.
I went to Whale Watching today, it was a very fast boat through Cabo Adventure. For 2 people, it was $85. For 3 hour tour, it's cheap!
I reserved sunset cruise tomorrow, they will serve Lobster dinner for my son and shrimp for me, and altogether, it's $110.
I paid almost $100 for one person for sunset cruise in Thailand and Caribbean.
My conclusion is, even if the flight is expensive to get here, food and sightseeing, tours are cheap, so still it would cost the same or cheaper than visiting Caribbean.
Would I visit here again? Yes, but not after this place is being commercialized like Cancun.
