The Real Way McDonald's Makes Their Money Might Surprise You

I grew up in Gardena, CA. We loved going to McDonald's and eating in the car. Somewhere within a half hour of us opened the first eat-in McDonald's in the area and we three kids had no interest in eating inside. In fact I think the day Dad wanted to do that we had lunch at home because he got so much pushback. I love McDonald's slogan "America's best first job". Closest I got to the food service was serving food and washing dishes at the dorm my freshman year at UCLA.

Hi Bill,

Curious as to where the Arctic Circle location is

Thanks

Richard

No problem. I think it is 46.57735927800189 -120.49131989479066 . It isn't Arctic Circle anymore. It might be a Burger Ranch.

Bill

Growing up, I used to eat all the time at the Arctic Circle location in Bellingham, WA. Their secret sauce was (and probably still is) a mystery. ;)

Dave

We made three different secret sauces. Fry sauce, burger sauce and tartar sauce. Fries and fry sauce were a real hit. I think the sauces are prepackaged these days. My wife worked at the popular cruise by burger joint called Dairy Queen for a while in high school. Back in these days us young people would go cruising the ave and the Dairy Queen is located at one end of the ave. The locations are still considered prime commercial real estate areas.

My oldest son never wanted to work at Taco Bell or McDonald's. He was afraid if he saw the kitchen work he would never want to eat at them again. He believed it was better to be ignorant. He did work at a Subway.

Footnote: A week later I was fired, because the manager said I’d made him look bad to corporate. He said he was in hot water because McD’s is a team effort, and I stood out instead of blending in as part of the team. Seriously.
Dave
Today an employee would put that comment all over social media, and the manager would get fired.
