We just got back from Nuevo Vallarta and I sat through an "update meeting" as they euphemistically called it. Supposedly not a sales meeting to pitch an upgrade. It lasted about 4 hours, but we were treated very well and did learn a few things, if we can believe what we were told.
1.) Phase 1 is "scheduled" to open in the park in February 2022. That isn't exactly news, but supposedly the gondolas (aka cable cars) should be finished by end of summer and there will be three Cirque du Soleil shows. The main show might be a water based show in a 600 to 800 seat theater. The other two are much smaller CdS productions of some sort. But these three acts are to open by Christmas 2020.
2.) To ride the gondola one must pay a "nominal" fee. But it will be free to those that purchased an entertainment package. Every other gondola will have a glass bottom.
3.) The Mayan Palace pool is gone forever and will be replaced by a RM similar Beach Club and Salum. The Costa Arena restaurant will reopen.
4.) Those that choose to stay in a hotel near the park will have their own facilities and will have no rights to any of the other NV pools, (restaurants?) or beach palapas. However, those folks will be permitted to go to the beach since beach access is public. This is supposedly in response to complaints from owners about park guests crowding already crowded pools, etc.
5.) The "train to nowhere" currently at the Residence Club check-in area will provide alternate transportation to the park (for those too scared of the cable cars.)
6.) Those folks that bought in the park preconstruction will be able to reserve their registered week(s) either in the park or at a sister resort. Those folks that buy later will be restricted to staying only in a park hotel unit they actually purchased for their registered week(s).
7.) Vidanta will construct another hotel group called Imperial Gardens across the street.
You guys know the drill. Who actually knows how much of this is true, plus everything is always changing, and maybe I misunderstood what was said over the course of a 4 hour meeting. And, of course, they eventually pitched me an upgrade and/or an additional purchase into the Imperial Gardens.
