Interesting, but I have stayed in hotels in Europe with far more history to them. For example, we did two week long trips driving around a region of Poland, once in Silesia and once in old Prussia, staying at a different castle every night, and I am sure a whole lot less expensive than those in this article.

This is a list list of hotels in the United States, not Europe. Hard to compare to Europe.

Stayed at the Royal Hawaiian, had several meals at both the Golden Nugget and the La Fonda. Nothing at the other 47!

The Royal Hawaiian is on my list. Every time we are in Waikiki I think about it.

I’ve eaten at The Grove Park Inn and been in the springs at The Greenbrier, but have only stayed at the Chicago Hilton and The Peabody (where I had an amazeballs room at no cost to me!) Homestead is on my list.

We treat ourselves to a long weekend at the Grove Park Inn every year. ( We live in NC ) It’s wonderful, and as an added bonus it has the best spa I’ve ever been to! The Homestead in Virginia is also very special. I’ve only stayed there once, but would love to go back.

I stayed at the West Baden Springs Hotel with my grandmother and Grand Hotel with my dad when I was a child. Both were memorable experiences. Our rock band played at the Brown Hotel in Louisville for debutante dances when I was in high school, but never got to stay there. I don't think we fit in with other guests. I stayed at the Chicago Hilton, Brown Palace, Grove Park Inn, and Peabody on business trips. My brothers and sisters used to visit the Greenbriar and Homestead, but I've heard that Greenbriar has really gone downhill.

I'm surprised that Wentworth by the Sea wasn't on the list. I really enjoyed our stay there a few years ago, but haven't been there lately.

W.Va. Gov. Jim Justice & Family bought the the Greenbrier out of bankruptcy in 2009, and then defaulted on $9.4 million in loans from JPMorgan they used to finance the purchase. A foreclosure was filed by a credit collection company, but the Justices recently made a payment to avoid avoid a foreclosure sale.

The only one I have actually stayed in is the US Grant. But have had dinner or drinks at about 10 of the others..
