We moved to the mid west 2 years ago and are still vacationing like we still live on the east coast. We usually go to Mexico for spring break then go somewhere in the summer Ocean city Myrtle beach or some where in the Carolina's We are planning to go to Myrtle in July and we will be traveling 19 hours. I was looking in to Corpus Christi, Galveston or even Alabama coast but as I talk to people they say that its not very nice, and to go to Florida.I have two teens and a husband that travels allot on business so when we go on vacation they all like to sit poolside or playing ping pong just doing nothing. We just got back from PV and you would have thought I was asking my children to do homework when we all went downtown for the second time in the week. They made such a fuss. They don't care for Myrtle beach and thinks its too busy . I enjoy the beach then in the evening I like the boardwalk and some kind of activity They were upset with me when I made reservations for Myrtle If it was up to them they would go to Edisto Island every year where the closest Wal-Mart is 35-40 minute drive and the town shuts down by 8pm But they send me off to the store with the grocery list. So if any one can recommend an area and resort it would be much appreciated.
Thanx

RCI or II ??

If the kids like quiet over busy they should like Hilton Head SC. Panhandle of Florida-Destin area over Panama Beach. Gulf of Florida-(RCI)Umbrella Beach Club or Longboat Key resorts quiet area but 20 minutes from Sarasota and the busier but beautiful Siesta Key area. OBX was also very nice and not as hectic as MB.

We are beach lovers and do coastal vacations 99% of the time.

I liked South Padre Island, TX (on the beach) and they have a new waterpark called Schlitterbaum that's fun their too. Also, if you go to the Outerbanks (Duck, Atlantic Beach, NC) they are somewhat quiet.

Fort MOrgan, near Gulf Shores is GEORGEOUS, IMHO. We went there on our honeymoon 5 years ago. White, white sand, wide beaches, mostly homes for rent in Fort Morgan. More condos in Gulf shores. Two resorts I recommend in Fort Morgan are Kiva Dunes and the Beach Club. Look on vrbo.com for rentals for either place.Gulg Shores is definitely quieter than Myrtle Beach, but busier than Edisto, for sure. I would say Fort Morgan is the better of the two, with not much of anything as far as stores or development. Depending upon what part of Fort Morgan you are in(its about 18 miles long) you could be 10-35 minutes from downtown Gulf shores. Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama form a large complex of high rises, so if you don't like that, Fort Morgan is the place to go.
