The Best Method for Cleaning a Cast Iron Skillet - Kitchn

We use the stiff plastic scrapper and water or my finger nails and water.

Delete duplication.

Huh. I use a cast iron skillet almost everyday. I've never had to use anything beyond hot water and either a wooden spatula or plastic scraper tool. For me, it is the easiest pan in the world to clean!! Love my cast iron skillet.

A well seasoned cast iron skillet is inherently non-stick. Plain hot water is all it should need. Maybe a wooden or plastic scraper (only one 'p'). I own one of those chain-mail scrubbers, but it's still in a plastic bag, unused. I can't say I use a cast iron skillet all that often. DW has a condition that accumulates iron in her liver, so we use enamel coated cast iron to avoids iron leaching out.

In a cooking class that I took in January, the chef encouraged us to leave the cast iron dirty overnight and clean in the morning, so that's what we do. I use hot water and kosher salt if there's stuff stuck on the bottom. I have the hardest time with potatoes. Nothing else really sticks except spuds.

I have been using the stiff brush and salt for awhile now. It works really well

Oooooh, I really don't know if I could do that. I'm so weird about cleaning the pan immediately after serving the food ... even before we eat. It is stuck in my mind to get a quick rub of oil, if needed, back onto the pan while it is still hot. Hmmm.
