The Bay club, Pools and HWV

The thing we like about the other HGVC's pools is that there is someone who monitors who is using the pools. The last summer and the prior summer we spent a month each time at the Bay Club. On weekends there would be a lot of locals who would come and basically take over the Bay Club pools. We were not sure if they were HGVC employees from the different HGVC resorts or not. But it happened both summers....we lived in Kona for 10 years so we are somewhat familiar how this could be fun for local families to do....they definitely were not staying at the Bay Club....

We are original owners. The units were built as condos and we love the lanais. Pools are fine but not as exciting for kids as the KL and Hilton Waikoloa. Bay Club is surprisingly a highly requested resort in Waikoloa.

We have stayed at both the Bay Club and Kohala Suites. I like the Bay Club better. We go to Hawaii to go to the beach, not the swimming pools. Some years back we spent one night at the Hilton Waikoloa hotel. Our two daughters got kind of bored with the pools after awhile.

These are not necessarily pool pirates. I’ve been at Kohala and met locals that stay on weekends only, HGV advertises and rents open season to locals at kamaaina rates. I understand what you are saying though, they may only have one unit and all the cousins show up to use the pools. I didn’t begrudge them the use, we are sharing their island.

Over the years I have met a lot of Hawaiian locals who spend the weekend at area resorts. Some live on the other side of the island and others live only a few miles away. I have also met numerous folks who live in San Diego and own timeshares in Carlsbad. A lot of visitors assume if they are local then they must be sneaking into the pool.

I understand what you are saying and we have Hawaiian family, lived on island for many years and were going to Waikoloa before Beach Villas and Kingsland were built...it does not happen at the other pools that are monitored with wrist bands and many times it is the workers and their families from other hotels....but when 3 or 4 truck loads come driving up and take over a pool it does not seem really respectful of the guests IMHO and does sometimes create problems if people do not understand local culture and what is happening....we are usually there at a month at a time in summer so it is what it is!!!

I am not trying to create disagreement but this was in reference to the different pools and our experience at the Waikoloa HGVC resorts.
