Good article!!! Hard to imagine the Eagles opening for anyone, but I guess everyone has to start somewhere!!!

I grew up in the Chicago area and Styx was the opening act for Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show. Styx at that time had released "Lady", which got a lot of local airplay, but had not made a national footprint. Later, Styx broke through to the national stage.

Yes, it is very hard to imagine the Eagles as an opening act - but as Sue said, all bands have to start somewhere!

Back in early 1973 I went to a Rare Earth concert and their opening band (who I was unfamiliar with) was The Doobie Brothers. They played many of the songs that they later became famous for and the crowd loved them - in fact I think most of us wanted them to continue playing and at that point I know I could have cared less about Rare Earth taking the stage!

I looked it up and according to Google it was January 25, 1973 and "This show occurred just a few months before The Doobie Brothers' third album, The Captain and Me, was released in March 1973, which featured hits like "Long Train Runnin'" and "China Grove"." And according to the poster I must have paid a whopping $5.00 or $6.00! Now THAT'S dating me!!

I’ve had a few experiences like that. Many years ago I went to a Scorpions concert in San Diego and a relatively unknown guy named Bon Jovi was the opening band.

I remember going to a bunch of 70's and 80's concerts. I had good times at every concert that the fun I had causes me to forget the details. It wouldn't have mattered to our group if Jethro Tull and the Eagles played the same gig.
