FWIW...my DD attended a public high school in a decent but not top 10 district in California. Scored 36 out of 36 on the ACT, took honors classes and had a 4.5 GPA. Was admitted to Yale (but chose UCLA Engineering for a number of reasons.) She was on honor roll at UCLA so going to a public HS did not hurt her one bit.

Happy to have saved $200,000+ in private school tuition that we could apply to college expenses. In hindsight it was money that would have been wasted.

If your teen is motivated and smart, and you live in a decent public school district, you don't need a fancy education.

My 3 kids all went to Public Schools. Oldest went to CalTech. Middle child went to Harvard. Youngest went to Dartmouth. We do not come from the Elite. I and their Mother graduated from Oregon State University. Paternal Grandmother left High School at age 14 or 15. Paternal Grandfather graduated from High School but no College. Maternal Grandfather had a Master' Degree in Education. Maternal Grandmother had some College.
