Does anyone know if there is a court rental fee at Orange Lake? How about equipment rental? Just trying to figure out if we should take our own rackets or what?;)

When we were there in March we used the tennis courts next to splash lagoon. We just walked on and played with our own equipment, there was no one there monitoring it.

There is no court fee at our home resort. Yes...we do have equipment rental...however I prefer my own equipment.

Vicki:

I just got new confirmations from RCI with the resort name changed to Orange Lake West Village. We have a 2 BR and a 3 BR reserved for May of 2008. Are any of the units, (I'm not sure what you call them but we stayed in one 4 years ago, they were all on one floor with the parking just outside of the unit and the golf course just off of the patio in back.) My question is do any of these units have 3 bedrooms? We are taking extended family and want to be together because of the children. Do you think that will be possible? And if not, how do I beg and plede with them to keep us together, or at least as close as possible? I really don't care where we are, we just want to be together. :)

gnipgnop;

The 3-bedroom units are in the Tennis Villas in the West Village. There are also 2-bedroom units in the Tennis Villas with the 3-bedroom units at the end of each floor. The Tennis Villas are the multi-story units next to the clubhouse. The units that you were in before sound like the Golf Villas as they are in the West Village and are single-story units. Since the 3-bedroom units are only available in the Tennis Village, I would request that the units be together and if they are, you will be near a hub of activities such as the pools, tennis courts, the beach, and the various clubhouse activities. I must admit that the results of my requests have been mixed (sometimes met, sometimes not) but given that you have 2 unit reserved and one of them must be in the Tennis Village, I believe that OLCC does its best to keep the units close together.

yes OL will put your units close together. Tell them you are sharing transportation with the extended family. Right now.....your west village confirmation includes the North Village and the East Village which have 3br units as well as the tennis villas in the West Village.

So....you could actually all wind up in any of those 3 areas. Gary has already told you about how the tennis villas are in the "hub" of activity. Just make sure that is what your family wants, because people will be coming and going almost 24/7 around you. I'll be back home in a few weeks. I can hardly wait. :D

Thanks Gary and Vicki for your reply. Like I said, we really don't care where we are placed, just as long as they will keep us all together. However, East or North Village sounds tempting. We were just able to look at those areas last time we were there and they were very appealing. :whoopie:

Is it best to call ahead and ask them about placement? And if so, when would be the best time to call? Reservations are for May, 2008.

Gnipgnop:

Just so you know, I understood immediately the first time I saw your handle.

tennis, orange lake and recommendations

We are big tennis fans , so since I see some knowledgeable people here ,may I ask about tennis at Orange Lake. Are there a lot of courts ? reserve or fee’s? enough players that you can find a game? We have stayed at many different resorts, many have a token court or two in rough condition, we have also experienced Vistana in Orlando which had 9 clay courts , free to use but still not many tennis players, and Edisto Fairfield who really had no courts , but there was a club on premise which had high fee’s….

I have heard a lot about Orange Lakes lately, I’m guessing this is a nice timeshare with lots of activities on site? Can anyone recommend any timeshares they enjoy, especially in regard to tennis. We, live in Roanoke, Va , we owned and enjoyed several timeshares in Navarre Florida , that were lost two years ago in Hurricanes … they have finally decided not to rebuild , so we will be looking to buy a couple others. I would especially like to find (other than a good deal) some within driving distance , love Hilton head (tennis and 8 hours away) but also Florida to Michigan (daughter in Michigan) to Iowa (folks near there). Pool, hot tubs and bicycle friendly would be nice also. The timeshares we had were a small Mom and Pop type place on beach (the beach condo in Navarre, Fl) smaller fees and the association always had some units available that had been turned in ,or someone wanted out at a low price.

I know I need to learn about points also (which I am off to do here soon)… but if anyone knows about cool tennis timeshare’s or one they enjoy and recommend , I’d appreciate the heads up.

Thanks John  …. JohnfromVa@cox.net

NOPE, your wrong! This handle came from a funny thing my grandson called one of his personal body parts. We cracked up when he said this and I never forgot it. How I came to use it was......when I first signed up as a TUG member I was trying to put in a user name. I must of tried 4 or 5 cute little names that I liked but each one of them had already been used....so the system told me. After a while I became very frustrated and thought to myself,.........ah..ha, I know one that I bet nobody has used!! :D

I was right....I wrote "gnipgnop" and I was in!

Your thought was really "cool" though. I did understand your egassem!

I don't see it mentioned, so for ancient history buffs, when OL was built, before it was necessary to designate Villages because there was only one, there was a large tennis stadium for competitive tennis matches.

I believe you might catch a glimpse of it on the OL Kemmons Wilson TV channel.

Yes, it was torn down to make room for the Tennis Villas midrises. :D

Tennis is my first priority when I use timeshares. Here are my experiences:

- Pompano Beach, FL: Sea Gardens had some good clay courts and there was a decent mixer every day (low intermediate players) but the courts had still not been restored after the last hurricane. I managed to find some good tennis at ? Smith Park inland at Pembroke Pines - they had a midday mixer with a higher level of play

- Hilton GVC at Sea World (Orlando): could not get anyone to play

- Sanibel Island: guests at Tortuga Beach Club and Hurricane House, in addition to the use of the resorts' courts, enjoy a free membership at the Dunes Golf & Tennis Club - an excellent opportunity to meet other players.

- Royal Resorts (Cancun, MX): the pro here is very good at organizing tournaments and encouraging participation in mixers. Those staying at one of the tri-Royals have it best as players from all three resorts can get together for mixers at the Royal Caribbean courts. Very good level of play (men and women) for the 55-65 age group.

- St. George's Club (Bermuda): in spite of repeated promises by the front desk to put up a looking-for-a-partner notice for me, it never happend and I didn't get to play.

Over the years I have been amazed at how few here are interested in tennis or golf.

Those are activities that I have always associated with resorts and vacations, and that I got the impression that a fairly significant portion of the general population participate in, especially golf.

But trying to find interest here has always been tough,

I'm surprised by that.

Hi John. OL has excellent courts. There is no fee to use them. Always players around. Mainly in the early morning and evening though. They are located in the West Village and the North Village.

There are several tennis courts near the tennis villas and west village. When we were there 3 years ago there was a pro that gave drills a couple of times a week which was a good time to meet other people. Also, in the pro shop next door there is a sign-up sheet to find players. I found more people playing here than in other Orlando resorts we have been at. There are also other courts in north village, but no organized activities there. I don't know about East Village. All courts are hard court.
