Great Smoky Mountains National Park Parking Tags

An entrance pass is not required to access Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Great Smoky Mountains National Park does not charge an entrance fee. However, valid parking tags are required on any vehicles parking for longer than 15 minutes in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
All revenue will stay in the park to provide sustainable, year-round support focusing on improving the visitor experience, protecting resources, and maintaining trails, roads, historic structures, and facilities.

Visitors who simply drive through the park do not need a paid parking tag.

I just stayed 2 nights at Wyndham smoky mountain resort
It was fantastic
We are hoping to return this fall
That is my only experience
They have a lovely pool that has beautiful views
with a spa, fitness center, hot tub
Nice activities, free ice cream and popcorn
We attended their magic show which came with decent bar b Que and was only $30.

We enjoy Wyndham Smoky Mountain. We don’t go to the water park one. Sales are very aggressive at Smoky Mountain

I've only been to Smoky Mountain (where I coincidentally own) and mostly enjoyed it. Strangely, of the three timeshares on that trip I stayed at with Wyndham, I don't think Smokey Mountain even asked, or certainly wasn't aggressive for me in April.

Is my youtube review, and I also have a TUG2 one as well as an abriged one in this very forum:

The downside is that it's like 45 minutes away from the actual park, so somewhere in Gatlinburg would be a lot closer, though perhaps otherwise less nice or harder to get into etc...

Wyndham Smoky mountains has a good location in the Pigeon Forge area near the Parkway and Veterans Blvd. There are several shopping areas and attractions (Dollywood, the Island) nearby. I do like the resort a lot.
If your focus is more toward Gatlinburg and the national park, you might like Tree Tops or HICV Smoky Mountains. Tree Tops is in the woods near the Roaring Fork nature trail exit and is in a quiet peaceful area. HICV is on the road to the entrance of the nature trail and it is walkable from there to downtown. I like both of them and they are closer to the national park.

We stayed at Laurel Point Resort in Gatlinburg back in 22. Was absolutely fantastic!! Off the beaten path, just outside GSNP. We're an older couple looking for a great, quiet, relaxing vacation, with an elevator at the resort, but close enough to the action when we wanted it.

Just spoke with good friends
They love Exploria in gatlinburg
Said it’s very convient to everything
They have been going for a decade

Personally, I'd pass on all three. The whole area was a one and done for us.

Had a great stay at Westgate Smoky Mountains which is located near Gatlinburg on the road between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. We were in a 2 BR lockout up the mountain so we had a balcony with nice views. We stayed as guests of an owner so water park admission was included (extra cost for exchangers) and we were not approached about a sales presentation. Enjoyed the mountaintop outdoor pool and mini golf course as well. Unit was large and well equipped. Would have been fine with just the 1BR portion but would not have been happy with the dark and claustrophobic studio. This is a large resort so lots of variation of location and room type is possible.

Sunrise Ridge in Pigeon Forge was very nice

So interesting, I can't wait to go back, and I can see going back semi-frequently. It's an easy area to book pretty cheaply, there's sooo much to do that I bet I could go for 5 years and not get through it all a week at a time, and is at least as drivable a trip for me as FL. I honestly felt like the area had something for everyone. Want to hike trails, go to spectacular vantage points and see wildlife - National Park. Want to go shopping? Plenty of stores, outlets, etc. Want to walk along a quaint little town? Each of the 3 towns has a different feel and area to wander around. Want to do mountain coasters - there's like 30 in the area. Want to sit in the resort and enjoy the hot tub or pool? Most resorts have that. Want to do a theme park? Dollywood. Want great restaurants? 3 towns with all sorts of varied choices. Want to see a show? Several of those too.

I'd say it was one of the more amazing places I've been. It also completely surprised me because I was expecting basically just nature stuff from the park.

We've owned & visited annually at Gatlinburg Town Square for about 10 years. It's just a bit up from the Parkway, close to the Convention Center. It's close enuff to the Park that bears will occasionally tour the facilities. It's older and modest, but has both an indoor & outdoor pool. The better units are in Phase II.

Depends on what are plans are but Club Wyndham Smoky mountains is where we end up most- only because it’s usually available last minute (semi-local)

That said if Dollywood is on your list of things to do Dreammore is definitely worth the cost of adding the hotel for a night.

Really…curious would love to hear more about that.
I lived in Ohio for a long time. Everyone who goes on vacation from Ohio goes to Gatlinburg. We heard how great it was. We went. A big traffic jam in and a big traffic jam to leave again. It is mostly tourist trap shops. Much like Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls. No thanks!

Didn’t you go into the National Park?

You can't get there and avoid the traffic at the same time. One way in, one way out. At least coming from Ohio.

The time of year, day of the week and hour of the day that you travel can make a big difference. Try to avoid a visit on a rod run weekend, an October weekend, a mid summer weekend, right after a UT football game, Knoxville/Sevier county school spring break week and any large convention weekend.

There are several routes in and ways to bypass the traffic that are known to locals. The worst traffic is always on the parkway. Wyndham Smoky Mountains is in a good location to bypass the parkway traffic and you can take a back scenic route to Gatlinburg if needed. Having a good map can be very helpful.

I recall going around the town of gatlinberg

It is beyond me that people go to fantastic destinations to go to shops. I always wonder where they live that they can’t go shopping
Such as Berkshires, people go there to go to the little outlet mall.

They need that t-shirt.

When we go to Gatlinburg, we'll spend half a day at the Five Oaks Outlet mall in Pigeon Forge.
