We read fares are about $18-$20 from MP to Playa. Just curious, is that per person and does anyone know how many people they allow in one taxi? Thanks!

That is one-way per taxi. Most, if not all, of the taxis are small sedans with bucket seats in front so they will fit one passenger in front and two or three in back.

That price is from the lobby of the Mayan Palace. If you get the free shuttle out to the highway you can get a cab for $10.00 or a bus for $1.50pp. If the cab pulls over to you, just ask how much and then bargain for the price. We have had twelve passenger taxi vans pull over and if a group is waiting for the bus everyone will get in the cab for $2.00 per person and the cab will drop at differnet locations. The public transportation system is very good in the area sometimes it just matters money or time. Don't forget to read the reviews on the resort there is tons of information.

As mentioned, at the entrance to the resort, you can cross the highway and wait for a bus; a collectivo, which is a fifteen passenger van; or a taxi, which will be less expensive than those at the lobby. However, the four lane, divided highway is dark in the evening, there isn't a stoplight, and you literally have to run across the highway when there is a break in the high-speed traffic.
