Staying at the Cape and want to do a day in Marthas Vinyard. Should we take our car- there's still availability, or should we just cab it.
We want to tours a couple towns, hit a bech, and have lunch.
We've never been so any help is appreciated.

Leave the car and rent a moped. It's a neat way to see the island.

Parking is a bit of a premium. Leave it behind. Take a bus between communities and walk within them. You'll catch much more of the local 'flavor'- plus spend less.

Car ferry can be expensive for a one day visit. There is some availability for the early, early ferries, but all wait listed after that.

Take the passenger ferry and rent a car ( arrange ahead of time - before you get there ) for the day is my recommendation or take an island tours. Good beaches are Lucy Vincent, Katama, South Beach, Cape Pogue on Chappy/East Beach on Chappy and some in Aquinnah. There are many, but these are my favorites.

I don't recommend scooters unless you're comfortable with them and have a sense of where you're going on the island. . When I owned a house on Chappy for several years, there was a movement to ban them on the Vineyard due to the amount of scooter accidents on the island.

Martha's vineyard

Spent a week there early May without a car. Busses can take you everywhere. May be more crowded now but no parking problems and trouble finding places
