DW and I were thinking for spending a few days in Lake Tahoe in October. The weather average is about 60. Ourside of the casinos, what is there to do in Tahoe in the Fall? Thanks, Jim

Hikling in the fall is gorgeous if it doesn't turn too cold. Usually very nice weather in Tahoe in Oct. The leaves on the Aspen trees will be turning yellow from mid October on. I'm not a good hiker anymore. Too old for it now, but there are many little flat hikes around. One is up Blackie Canyon on the North side near Homewood. I love Tahoe in Oct.

Tahoe is beautiful in October!

We have gone to Tahoe during Columbus Day weekend the last few years. We love it!

Tahoe in October is wonderfully quiet! It is pleasant weather, with temperatures in the 60-s and 70-s. Not ski season nor Summer, so there usually are no crowds. Tourists are gone, except those of us who come to the lake for smelling the fresh mountain air and to spend some quiet time along the lake. Pictures from our trip in October 2005 can be found here.

Hiking, boating, biking, fishing, dining out and hanging out with the locals are all things one would enjoy at Tahoe :)

I have lots of ideas on my Tahoe Travel Page.

I agree that fall is beautiful in Tahoe! But, I think you are underestimating how cold it will be. 60º isn't the Avg. - 60º is the Avg. high. Here are the Avg. weather temps for Oct. The Avg. temp. is 49º, the Avg. low is 35º, and the Avg. high is 61º. We usually go to Tahoe the last weekend of October for Nevada Day and it is not at all unusual to get a little snow in Oct. - the avg. is 1.3 in. in Oct. - so go prepared.
