Started process to give this back to Marriott. They were very prompt on accepting it back for free, surprise! 400.00 fee, 120 days to complete, will update as it goes along.

what do you own?

3rd week in October, 2 bed sleeps 8. Deeded, wk 42.Bought resale in 1997 and used every year since, good trader to Marriott. My problem is my daughter on college schedule and grandson on primary, it will not pull a school vacation week. Will use Redweek to get what I want. II said I can stay grandfathered in and use getaways. Own 2 Hiltons also but keeping those.

Location? Asking because I like to know if Marriott takes it back simply because it has a lot of value - in that case you might be able to sell it yourself or give it away here saving 400 bucks.

Marriott offered to take back Sheraton Broadway resort in Myrtle beach no fees. Stated closure would take 120 days.

Did you try giving that away and no one took it? Some people like that resort for trading. I plan on picking one up next year.

Last year I gave back a Vistana Villages EOY with no fee. I wonder what is their criteria for charging a fee?

What was the fee for?

Actually did not. This was last year. I got it enrolled with my other Marriott resales when I bought Spain.

Just assumed title work on the fee, it rents for less than the maintenance fee, so unless I trade did not have a lot of value. Was quoted 250.00 for the fee 2 years ago. So 400.00 did not seem out of line.

We are in the process of a deed back for Sheraton Mountain Vista and there are no fee's involved.

Im just starting the process with MVC. I have 2 to deed back, a Flex (81,000 Opts) and Gold Desert Willows 2 Bdr (81,000 Opts). The cost is $400 EACH! How do I sell or give these to someone on TUG? I would like to avoid costs but am leery of the process involved.

List them here. Two separate posts. One for each VOI.

very frustrating to hear marriott is now charging to surrender, though i cant say im surprised. I expect them all to eventually charge for this.

Marriott cheaper than HGVC, plus I have a deeded week, that requires title work somewhere. It says I own “ Vistana Springs Condominium, not points

When we were staying at Sheraton Vistana this past November we asked if they were taking back weeks. Their reply was not interested. Who did everyone talk to to get this process started?

What season were these SMV weeks? I can see them jumping on winter weeks. If they were spring/fall weeks for free is a good deal.

Well I used exit.services@vacationclub.com, just make sure you select the legit Marriott one. I also have this number 1-888-786-9637. I called in initially and the rep took my info, heard from them in 24 hrs. I used my 2025 year already, so they will have the 2026 use year. Also do it early in the year, they stop sometimes in June or July. They want the 400.00 as soon as you accept the offer.

Did you ask them at the resort? If so, that isn't the right people to talk to. You need to contact Exit Services.

So glad we deeded back last year. Marriott covered all charges. They used a title company and I saw the charges assessed in the paperwork. If I remember correctly it was about $400. So Marriott is not covering those charges anymore. Interesting.

We have the last week of shoulder season. It can be good skiing or no skiing.

Is this thread distinguishing between deedback to the big corporation and deedback to the owner association? I gave a "historic" timeshare back to a local Wyndham association (formerly Fairfield Bay, one of the industry's first offerings), back in 2010. They said the charge was for "legal fees." My first post to TUG was to ask whether this was a good deal (the answer was an overwhelming "Yes."

Advice from that TUG experience was instrumental in making my first timeshare purchase, an aftermarket Wyndham property at a much better season for $1500. I later recovered $5500 for its sale but that's another story.

With Marriott it is one and the same.

Unlike Wyndham and Bluegreen where there were owners of fixed weeks prior to becoming part of the "system" where they take back traditional weeks to add to the trust.

We deeded back a Manor Club week last year. No fee from MVC and no regrets. Annual maintenance for our deeded week was higher than the value the week provided to us. We're holding on to our Timber Lodge lockout. Excellent value if we lock off, deposit both units, and trade via Interval. Our deeded back week was platinum. The comments above seem to indicate that not everyone is charged the fee. Curious.

Why all the pushback on a fee? Marriott is a business. They have costs associated with processing a deed back. In the end they're doing the owner a favor by releasing them from future maintenance fee payments. Yes, they are receiving back the ownership which they can stick in a trust or resell but in many cases they're facing the same economics as the owner with things renting for less than high maintenance fees, etc.

I think so many of us here are conditioned to immediately criticize Marriott for anything that they charge. There are options to avoid the fee but require more work on the part of the owner. If the owner decides they want to avoid that work/hassle and just have it handled to where they won't owe any more money, then paying a fee to do that is reasonable IMHO.
