Hi!
No sure if I'm posting this question in the correct Forum.

It looks like Sunterra manages San Luis Bay Inn. Apparently, I can trade into it via Interval International. But how realistic is that trade? Maybe Sunterra owners can tell me how their system works and if this kind of trade is possible not being a Sunterra owner. I need a 2 bedroom unit. I notice many 1 bedroom units and studios for rent never any 2 bedroom. And when I search II for a summer week I pull nothing. Thanks in advance

San Luis Bay Inn has 2 sections; the original Inn later converted to timeshare & the new section build by Sunterra. The original section is, I think, all studio or 1 bedroom units. The new section is 2 bedroom lock-offs. Exchanges can be done at RCI or II. You will wait a lifetime to see a 2 bedroom available at either company. The Sunterra units are usually used as points with-in Sunterra so 2 bedroom units just never show up for trades. And as an owner I can tell you, most owners use their units. SBI is a pretty tough trade. I've seen an occassional 1 bedroom and now & then a mini-suite at II off-season. Your best shot is a private exchange.

There's never any availability for SLB in the Sunterra points either, at least I've never seen any when I looked.

Interesting.....
I gave my brother a 3 day vaction at San Luis Bay for his birthday just last week. (Owner bonus time, gotta love it!) He called when he got home to say...drum roll here....he is now the proud owner of a Sunterra timeshare. I know, I know he shoulda talked to me first about resale. But anyway, he says to me, "Sis, we just fell in love with the place. It's only a coupla hours from home & we get day use, too." He doesn't expect to trade it for many years. Like I said, very few owners trade. We tend to just go there every year. And a summer rental week in any size would be rare & cost a lot of $$$.

On the other hand I have seen the mini-suites on rental sites. You may just have to rent 2 of those.

Well... I see SLBI available now and then via points, but not often enough.
I have more luck with my RCIM/former Glen Ivy ownership when I want time there than I do with SunOptions.
BUT there are more units available through Sunterra if that means anything.
And yes there are units available for rent, plus there are two units maintained by Marketing that are often available, if you know who to ask.
But congrats to your brother. I really enjoy my ownership there.
Oh yes, when I bought I added my sisters name thinking she'd get day use and she's just 15min away. That was a few years ago and she's only there when we stay.

You might call the resort directly at 805-595-2333.
Get to the operator and ask for Amberly the new Customer Service manager (took Joes place just this weekend)
She can get the listings off the local board for you as to available rentals.
Probably a good chance there's one that will meet your needs, and more than likely it'll be GM Trust who owns it!
My New Zealand friends rented from him over Christmas

Also, you can call Sunterra about a rental, but their rates are Very High for non-ClubSunterra owners. 1.800.GETAWAY

Thank you so much for info.
