Summer Bay Resort - I'm worried

About a month ago I confirmed into a 3 bedroom at this resort. We stayed there 4 years ago and thought the place was great. Now on the RCI site I am seeing alot of really bad review in the last few weeks. Most have to do with cleaniness and responsiveness of staff. Has this place really gone downhill or do a few people have an axe to grind?

I assume you are talking about the SB in Orlando area.

We have stayed there many times, and three times in the houses. The resort is great and we had no problems. I always read the reviews with a grain of salt, but others may have more specific info.

We stayed there as recently as July and it was the same as always. About as clean as any other Gold Crown timeshare we've visited. I would request either a 400 or 500 building. I specifically like 408, 406, 404, and 402. All of the 500 buildings are newer, but more distant from the amenities. Customer service has always been great for us at Summer Bay and we've probably stayed in the condos and houses a combined 20 times in the last five years.

If you search reviews on sites like Tripadvisor, you will find that complaints about cleanliness and customer service are common in the Orlando/Kissimmee area.

Most seem to come from folks not accustomed to timesharing, like those accustomed to hotels, where they do offer daily cleaning and real hospitality services.

As timeshare owners we are accustomed to lack of service and cleanliness being whatever we are willing to do ourselves.

Yes, I was refering to the Summer Bay in Orlando. Its funny, the one thing I liked last time about this resort is that all the areas seemed to be pretty well maintained. Easy walk to the pool from all buildings. Orange Lake on the other hand has its slums(West Village) and the newer sections which are fabulous.

When I say the new 500 buildings are more distant from the amenities, it's nothing at all like Orange Lake. There is just no pool complex (yet) in the immediate area of those new buildings. There are, however, two pool complexes in the 400 series of buildings and those are just a short walk from the 500 buildings. Also, the main pool complex and clubhouse is at the other end of the road from the 500 buildings, just a leisurely walk down the pool house street from the 500 series. We still prefer the even numbered 400 buildings (they were the last built prior to the 500 series; the odd numbers are a little bit older) because of the adjacent pool, pond, grills and great proximity to the clubhouse. The only section we avoid is the oldest set of buildings (I think they're the 200 series, but I don't recall for sure), and that's simply because we like newer and shinier. Those oldest buildings are located right at the lake and near the main clubhouse area, so they do offer great access to the amenities.

Not to worry. It's like Sand and Cindy have indicted. I'm an owner at SB and was last there July 29. We had the three bdrm lockout in Bldg. 407, I think. Anyway, the units are very well kept, especially compared to other resorts. We've also stayed in the houses 3 times. We absolutely love them.

I actually called ahead and requested the 500 blgs. We had a Sunday check in and could not get into those bldgs. I was not aware that the 500's don't have a Sunday check in.
