We live on the East Coast. I have never visited California. I just booked Marriott Shadow Ridge on a whim. Can anyone tell me what things there may be to do in the area. My kids are 8 and 10. Any information on the area or the resort would be so much appreciated. We are going in October. I looks like a great resort and we always say we are going to visit more US states. Every year we end up in Disney and the Caribbean. So here goes!

I hope we will not be disappointed.

We take our granddaughters

We have been taking our granddaughters to Palm Desert for the last 5 years at least once a year. They are now 11 and 14. We own at Desert Springs I, so I am not familiar with the pools at Shadow Ridge. The girls love the swimming pools and there are always planned activities and games for children's participation. Very well organized. They have movies by the pool at times. There is also an activity center where they make crafts. The Palm Springs aerial tram is a great place to spend the day. The tram takes you to Mt. San Jacinto for hiking and sightseeing. The temperature is about 20- 30 degrees colder at the top, so take light jackets. On Thursday evenings there is a Villegefest in downtown Palm Springs that has activities (rock climbing wall) and good food. A day can also be spent at Boomers in Cathedral City nearby (games, go karts, etc.). We've also gone hiking at the Indian Canyons. They have guides that will take you hiking. OK, I could go on and on, but yes, there will be plenty for you to do in and around Palm Springs. I hope you have a very enjoyable vacation.

We visited Palm Springs for the first time last June and stayed at Shadow Ridge with our 3 children. We all loved it and can't wait to go back. There is a lot to do at the resort itself and we also had fun visiting Joshua Tree National Park and The Living Desert ( a zoo).

Love Palm Desert

I am prejudice because living in Los Angeles I spent years traveling to Palm Springs with my parents. Call Shadow Ridge and talk with the concierge. The weather is nice in October. Great swimming pools, and neighbor window shopping, movies, malls. Go on a hotel organize nature hike, there is a desert
wildlife park. I imagine you are flying into Los Angeles. If so see if you add on two more days and check out the beaches: Newport up to Mailbu.

We just go back from Shadow Ridge (and our first trip to the area) a couple
of weeks ago. We absolutely LOVED the resort and the area. There is
more than enought to do. We really enjoyed our day at Joshua Tree National Park..contact the park office and reserve a spot on the "Keys Ranch Tour".
It's only $ 5 for a 1.5 hour tour and it was fascinating. Beautiful scenery too.
The Palm Springs Air Museum was very interesting as well, your children might enjoy it (?)
There are a lot of very knowledgeable people on TUG that know the area
well..if you search back through the bulletin board, you will find
a lot of great advice.
Enjoy your trip...I can't wait to go back!

My kids are 8 and 11 and they love it there. They have a great kids center with a movie theater, crafts, and an arcade.

Palm Springs has a great water park (Knotts Soak City.) Shadow Ridge also has a water slide and they do "dive in" movies on weekends.

The kids museum in Rancho Mirage is a lot of fun (Discovery Museum of the Desert).

We also love the Palm Springs Arial Tramway.

If you have a rental car, you are a few hours from Hollywood, or from Disneyland, Universal, or Legoland. It's a great location.

HAVE FUN!
