Has anyone stayed there recently? Thoughts? Opinions? I was looking at staying there in September. The rooms seem nice and clean. The views look good. The ocean fronts room look like they're on the ocean. I did use the search but didn't really find what i was looking for. Thanks!

That is not the part of Kihei that we prefer. We like the southern end where we own.

That portion of the island is prone to flooding and it can also get quite windy up there. We had some neighbors stay in that area, don't know if it was at the same place, some years back and they did like it.

There are TripAdvisor reviews.

Is it more windy than Maui Bay Villas? That's where we typically stay but i didn't get my stuff together in time to stay there. I know the wind can kick up there in the afternoon. Flooding? From the ocean or rain?

The flooding is usually a result of the rain. You can do a Google search for articles about recent cases. I remember one where the condo where someone was staying was filled with mud from the flooding. That area sits in a kind of dip Here is one.

Not familiar with Maui Bay Villas so don't know how windy it gets there. Sugar Beach is closer to Maalea Harbor, which gets VERY windy.

That's crazy! It looks like its a winter time problem. I know in September it rains a little bit nothing massive. MBV is about 1.8 miles south of this place. Minus the flooding issue is it a decent place to stay?

Are you asking about the location of MBV or Sugar Beach? Personally don't care for either location. Nothing really within walking distance. MBV is also in an area that can flood.

Yes, the title of the thread is what I’m focused on. The mention of MBV was just to provide point of reference. I have stayed there several times without flooding. I don't stay during the winter months.

I haven't stayed at Sugar Beach. Not the location we prefer. As I said earlier we had friends who stayed in that area and liked it. As far as I know it's been there one and only visit to Maui.

Ok thanks! Walking distance isn't a prerequisite. We typically go to the beach in the morning and hang out pool side during the afternoons.

Is Sugar Beach Resort a timeshare? I believe the units are all individually owned, so maybe look at tripadvisor or google for reviews, but would kind of depend on the specific unit you rented if individually owned, unless you are just curious about the resort in general?

Yes, on the beach, not across from it. Yes, windy (in pm especially) like MBV, since also in northern part of Kihei. Yes, isolated from most things in Kihei proper.

I don't think Sugar Beach Resort is a timeshare. I like the location for night fishing. It can be breezy.

It's not a timeshare. I think the units are individually owned so the quality could differ. There are reviews on Tripadvisor.

Years ago, our reserved room at the Kai Nani had a roach problem so we were looking for a different place to stay. We found some resorts on Sugar Beach at VRBO. Lucky for us we also found bonus time at the Worldmark for the next six nights.

I have booked Sugar Beach. I will report back in September after my trip.
