According to Starwood Lurker II post on Flyertalk, SPG Platinum members will get upgrades in WLR based on availability.

What does this mean to the SVN "Elite" (sic) system ? Will SPG Platinum members get upgrades ahead of SVN 4-stars ??

My colleagues at the property(Director of Revenue Management) has written back to me with some helpful answers.

Q. Will members earn any Starpoints for stays based on RACK, COR, BAR1 and AAA?
A. Yes
Q. Will the stays be credited? Any in-hotel benefits such as upgrades?
A. Stays will be credited, upgrades are only available to platinum members and base upon availability
Q. How about redemption of free nights and SPG50?
A. No

SVO killed the SVN elite member villa upgrade benefit without any prior notice and while the ink was still drying on many of us Tuggers' SVO developer purchase paperwork listing this benefit.

At that time, SVO’s “VP of Owner Services” Suzanne Clarke made her infamous "surprise and delight" promise that informed “us” (actually one of us Tuggers who posted her response to him here. God forbid anyone at SVO would ever communicate with us directly on this forum) that upgrades were back, but “we are not going to communicate the villa upgrade as a promised benefit.” Apparently, villa upgrades for SVN Elite members have been on double secret probation since then.

Judging from the lack of response to the present post, which informs us that SVO would rather give upgrades to SPG platinum members than honor either its initial promises to us elite owners or its “surprise and delight” subsequent promise, I think it is fair to say that our collective SVO owner nerve associated with villa upgrades is finally dead.

Hey SVO: If you still want to get a rise out of us owners over this issue, maybe you should try giving the SPG members who’ve been upgraded special sashes to wear around the pool that say “I was upgraded and I don’t even own here!”

Otherwise, we’ll just keep waiting in anticipation for the 2009 maintenance fee and special assessment announcements expected soon. I’m sure SVO will manage to get a rise out of us then.

Just another reason to avoid Starwood and do direct exchanges.
