Thanks Steve. I understand completely. It sounds like the information probably was available in the documents, but no one understood it yet. Cathy's earlier post made it sound as if Starwood changed something after 2 years, which would have been even more awful.

steve1000: Your post is exactly what I experienced and feel!!! One additional note to add to your reasons you are an unhappy Starwood owner (I own two at Marriott): Starwood does its best to discourage owners in attending their WMH annual meeting. The Notice is dated say 3/1/xx for a 4/15/xx meeting, but it has come in the mail three years in a row now around 4/5/xx -- almost last minute. These dates are hypothetical but trying to show how Starwood works. THEY DO NOT WANT US THERE!!! :(

I too enjoy staying at WMH, we were just there using our week in January. However they do not compare with Marriott when it comes to appreciating their owners. We go every year to Marriott Desert Springs Villas annual meetings where 75-100 people show up. At
THAT meeting we are told when next year's meeting will be!!! We are informed of business and given a chance to get questions answered -- now that is a caring company!

jerseygirl: We early owners feel the rules were enhanced later, not spelled out in clear language in our contract. Kind of like a page was written in a foreign language not detecting the true ramifications of when you sell - or like selling a house with a leak in it and not revealing the true situation.

We didn't plan on selling, but passing it on to heirs; but now they will just have a devil of a time unloading it for what it could be worth if it were Mandatory classified. Sour lesson in life learned on this company's interest in an owner once they have your money. :(

After reading our WKORV documents, it appears that Starwood has to give 2 weeks' notice for their meetings. That in and of itself tells you how little they value or want our input. How many people can fly to Hawaii in 2 weeks' notice?

I plan meetings all the time and for a meeting of this potential size, I'd book it no earlier than 3 months ahead. I have no doubt that SVO knows several months, if not a year ahead, when their next HOA meeting is and simply chooses not to communicate it to the owners.

If they do value our input, it wouldn't be difficult to put their money where their mouth is and send us notice at least a month ahead of time.

If, indeed, the Board is comprised of current SVO employees representing Starwood and ex-SVO employees representing the homeowners, there is a pretty clear conflict of interest. Maybe we should do as others have suggested and start taking the only bargaining power we have, our HOA rep, more seriously. I'd personally be willing to chip in $50 to $100 towards someone's travel expenses.

Hi Lisa - the first time we stayed at the WKORV just happened to be the first annual meeting. It was a joke. It was at 8:00 in the morning and there were no notices up about it at the resort. There were no more than ten owners there, and the powers-that-be tried to rush through everything as quickly as possible. I think there were 2 or 3 people there from Starwood, including the Resort Mgr. and they rest of the "board," participated by phone. They were clearly just going through the motions to meet the requirements of the law. Owner's questions were brushed over as quickly as possible as they raced through the agenda. There was a couple there from San Francisco who "were in real estate," and they came prepared with some motions and questions and Starwood seems surprised that they wanted to participate.

The next year, they canceled the annual meeting at the last minute, because the sales staff needed to use the room for a meeting, and the whole thing was conducted over phone. One of the Tuggers participated in the phone conference - I think it was Stevens397.

I wonder how long Starwood can pack the board with their employees, legally?
