Starpoints from a Resale purchase?

Is this possible?

Let me explain the situation, my Ex and my daughter just got thrown out of the house they were living in, now, they're not homeless they have friends and family(and my daughter has me) that they can stay with till they find another place....So i figured, if they're going to be living out of a suitcase for a couple weeks, i'd try to set them up in somewhere nice....I'm not finding anything available on Long Island for this week on RCI or II

The two Long Island Sheratons are both Category 3, but i'm not sure if i can convert my resale to starpoints..

Unfortunately, you cannot convert resale unit's StarOptions to StarPoints. That option is only available for weeks bought directly from Starwood.

...and even if you could you would get them 3 nights in a category 3 hotel at 7000 SP per night. SBP gold+ would get 22,000SP.

It would be cheaper to priceline a few nights in a hotel for them.
