Husband and I are going to St. Martin and staying in the Pelican Marina Residences Jan 17-24th. Do you know if regular electrical appliances from the US will work on the Dutch side? Or do I need a converter? We are staying in an "efficiency" which THANK GOODNESS has TWO full sized beds....we would kill each other trying to sleep together in ONE. We both love to Snorkel (especially from shore) and EAT, so any tips from my fellow tuggers are appreciated. Big question is tho: Will my hair dryer work? Thanks!

110V - Don't know what voltage your hair dryer uses. Pelican is ok, but visit other beaches for better snorkeling, Bay Rouge is one of our favorites. Good food near Pelican: Toppers and Sonamas (sp?). Check out the Lolos (outdoor bbq cafes) at the end of the beach in Grand Case for $6 meals.

We have snorkeled from shore at Baie Rouge, Little Bay, Friar's Bay and Pinel Island with Baie Rouge and Pinel being our favorites.

The Dutch side is 110; the French side is 220. You won't need a hair dryer at the Pelican--their bathrooms have hair dryers.

For breakfast--Zee Best has the best chocolate croissants outside Paris. It's across the street from the Pelican. Other great restaurants: in Marigot: La Belle Creole, La Vie en Rose (really, almost anywhere in Marigot). Biggest splurge is La Santal on Sandy Ground. Be sure to get a table with the water view and expect to pay big bucks. Mario's Bistro also good, though in my opnion sightly over-rated. My favorite in Grand Case used to be L'Alabama, but it's under new management now so I doubt it's as great as it was. If you like to eat, St. Martin's the place, believe me.

I'll second Zee Best. Great pastries. We are not huge gourmands, but we do enjoy going to Pineapple Pete for the Lobster Thermidor. Lee's IMHO is overrated. Boathouse is OK, better this past year than it has been the past few. Pizza Pasta over in Maho is a good little place.

Unfortunately, two of our favorites are no longer there. D'Livio is no longer on Front Street and Banana's went away a couple of years ago to be replaced by Topper's, which IMHO is not in the same league...
