We've been saving our spg points for hotel redemption in London or other european cities. However we can't realistically travel to London till 2017, and this year's trips are planned out. I noticed on spg site, their advanced booking calendars extend out about 18 months from now. So I could use points for a reservation for our preferred months of April or May 2017.

Do you think whoever eventually purchases Starwood, either Anbang or Marriott, will honor hotel reservations already booked & 'paid' with starpoints?
I guess I'll just go ahead and make the reservations, and see what happens.
Worse case they could cancel the reservation and return my points or put a hold on reservation and tell me I have to pay more points.

Appreciate your opinions. Does anyone have hotel reservations made with points for 2017?

Thanks!

Historically those reservations booked and paid pre point increase are grandfathered. Similar to a cash rate that goes up pre check in.
I cant see this changing it happens on Marriott and starwood.

I don't think that will be an issue. If I were you, I would go ahead and make the reservations. I have had a few instances where I had booked an Starwood hotel with points way ahead of time, and by the time the trip came, the hotel had already left the SPG chain. Never had a problem with the reservations being honored. The only issue had been that the elite benefits did not apply any longer.

I would make the reservations as soon as possible. I think its quite likely the cost will continue to go up, so if you get them now, you get them at the current price. Either MAR or Anbang will honour the reservations.

Also, since starpoint reservations have very generous cancellation policies, you have nothing to lose. Make the reservations now, and if you change your mind, or prices drop, just cancel them. (Make a note of the specific policy, but they're usually very generous, often 1 day)

Thanks all for your suggestions.
I made a reservation for early May next year.
DH said spend the points, don't save 'em !
Hardest part was choosing a London hotel.
OMG, we would never pay the cash rate for those places :D
