I continue to send out a Christmas letter by snail mail. I appreciate getting cards and letters by mail, and know my recipients do too. Of course, I'll take an email Christmas greeting over none at all, but still like the old-fashioned way of delivery.
And yes, I DO LIKE the letters telling what people have done all year. I DON'T CARE if they seem to be bragging. I don't see so many friends spread across the country, so the updates and photos are appreciated. And people LIKE MY LETTERS. We are told they look forward to them, because I always have a touch of humor. Tis the season to be jolly....
I also keep one letter for each of my kids, saved in their boxes of school papers. It is a running history of our family, which they will enjoy reading when they are old and the USPS no longer exists.

I agree! Because we winter in Florida, getting "snail mail" cards from our family and friends back home is a real joy.

Hanging the cards we receive on the columns that divide our living room/dining room/front hall is one of my favorite ways to decorate! I hope this tradition doesn't totally fall out of fashion...printing out e-mails just wouldn't look (or feel) the same.

And Costco has made sending beautiful photo cards so cheap and easy, it's hard to figure out why people wouldn't send them....

DW hangs our cards on a wall, but she never took last year's down.
With this year's starting to arrive, she simply replaces the old with the new.

Patri,

What a wonderful idea to keep a copy of each year's letter for your children! I am sure that they will appreciate them when they are old/older.
I, too, send out letters and love receiving them from friends who live far and whom I rarely see.

My DW sends an additional Christmas card / letter in the mail each year, addressed to us. Then when we receive it back in our delivered mail, she stores it (unopened) for our daughter's scrapbook. Someday when she is older, she can go through and look at the stamps, open the letters, etc.

She has been doing that since our DD's first Christmas. I thought it was a really neat idea!
