From today's Update from Hilton Head's Ass't Town Mgr Josh Gruber:

... Our town counsel passed a resolution last month and made a plea for people to wear face coverings. At a news conference this week, state epidemiologist Linda Bell, who has been one of the top health officials dealing with this pandemic in South Carolina, said she is more concerned now about the virus than she has ever been. Over the last two weeks, South Carolina has seen some of its highest daily cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic started. This is attributed to people not wearing masks and practicing physical distancing. Bell said those are two ways to curb our cases.

As we work to rebuild our economy, our schools, our businesses and our lives, we have to follow public health guidelines. COVID-19 can spread quickly and easily - even by people who don't have any symptoms. Look out for your neighbor. Wear a mask so we can all work to stay Hilton Head Island strong and South Carolina strong.

... For the latest update on COVID-19 cases in South Carolina and in Beaufort County, and mobile testing locations, go to SCDHEC.gov."

We're heading to our home in HH at the end of this month, have been staying away purposely since January. I really hope the numbers plateau/start going down before then.

HHI has seen a significant spike in cases in the last couple weeks. For a long time they were plodding along adding a handful a week, but recently it's spiked to over 100 total since March. Still not that high relative to many other places with similar population, but it has spiked up. On the other hand, I saw a news article online from a Savannah TV station that said as of yesterday I believe, Hilton Head Hospital had NO Covid patients at all right now, despite the spike in cases. So that's a good thing.

We have been going down every week or two since late February getting our Palmetto Dunes condo renovation finished, furnished, and accessorized (almost done!). It seems the areas we've been where most of the folks are locals, there seems to be much better compliance with mask wearing and social distancing. Places where tourists tend to hang out, mask compliance is minimal. Our condo complex is primarily vacation rentals (very few units seem to be owner-used like ours), so it is a little frustrating to see people behaving as if nothing has changed in the world. We knew being in a property that was primarily rentals would have some downsides, and that's one we obviously couldn't anticipate when we bought last fall, but being able to see the ocean from our balcony and walk to the beach makes up for it. We just don't share the elevators with anyone, and since we have an end unit right beside a stairwell we often walk down from our fourth floor rather than deal with the elevator. I suspect where you guys are in Leamington, people will be acting more responsibly.

As the OP, I appreciate everyone’s comments here. I have decided to pull the plug on my July SC/HHI trip.

The number of C-19 cases increasing there is a small part of my decision. However, the deal breaker to me is I have lost faith in the traveling public at this time. We went to Virginia Beach this past weekend. Everyone was running around like there was not a pandemic going on. Very few guests at the timeshare were wearing masks.

There were no signs posted on the door asking people to wear masks, and social distancing was poor. Resort employees all had masks, but very few were wearing them over their mouth and fewer over there nose. One employee got on the elevator with me and pulled his mask up once he got on. Then his phone rang and he pulled it down to talk until until I got off the elevator.

Other resorts may manage things better, but we have decided the weeks around 7/4 are not a good time for our family to travel.

Yeah, not fun. We would have been checking in at Ocean 22 tomorrow. Still think we made the best decision for our family, but am missing the trip.

We have two trips still on the books for this year, San Diego in August and then Hawaii in October. Hoping they both happen, and that we won't end up in a bad situation.

We have one set for August in Chicago (within a good driving distance). The resort still doesn’t have an opening date yet, but we will hold on to this one as long as possible.

I checked into Ocean 22 last year the weekend before the 4th and checked out the weekend after. The check in and especially the check out were quite hectic and busy .... with major praise to the resort staff for making it go as seamless as it did. With the current state of SC and MB, it may not be a bad idea for them to put a damper on things until after the holiday if that is what is going on.

Looks like it was a glitch, I see lots of inventory today.

I would say so. There is a glut of inventory for over the 4th there now. Recent headlines like this around country not helping things.

This is a headline from Virginia. Some areas in Virginia are recommending vacationers self quarantine 14 days upon returning from Myrtle Beach.
