He says he gave them the song and was happy to see it go up the charts.

A classic. One of the elements that gave PP&M their distinct sound is that Mary had a deep alto voice, whereas Peter was a high tenor. So, Peter was often a male voice providing high harmony over a Mary's female voice. Or, if Peter was in lead, Mary would be a lower female harmony.

 
"If I Had a Hammer" was written by folk singer Pete Seeger in 1949.
It was controversial at the time for words like "justice" and "freedom."

We have a giant sized print of Under the wave off Kanagawa in the workout room. Sometimes I stare at it and wonder what the fishermen are thinking. The print does inspire music and stories.
