Fellow TUGgers,

Our trip to Son Antem is imminent!

As I review the choices for "planning my vacation" I see two items that I'd like to learn about. I know that there is good info and experience here. So..

1) What is the difference related to "street numbers"? If they're asking me, there must be something notable.
2) Do you have any feedback on the "Type of Townhouse (A or B)" A is both bedrooms upstairs, B is 1 upstairs, 1 downstairs. It is just the two of us and we're quite able to navigate stairs. Any other considerations?

Thank to all in advance!

1)
The resort is very spread out, so it depends if you want to be near to all the facilities or not?
If you do, the 600s are closest then the 500s or 700s
2)
Townhouse type B can be useful if say you are a family or 2 couples and want some separation.
Also, these have an upstairs sun terrace, which some prefer.
We perhaps marginally favour Type A if just two of us, which I believe has a larger living area, but to be honest we really don’t mind either.

If you look on the MVCI website and locate the page for Son Antem there's a link for a PDF file on the resort layout. It'a quite large resort primarily golf course focused, at the central core is the resort check in, restaurant, spa, indoor and outdoor pool, marketplace etc and there are a number of roads radiating from this central building. The furthest row of villas from this centre are the 300's and are located right at the entrance to the resort. I've been told that some people prefer those villas because of the tranquility they offer (they still have pools per 16 villas) but if you have young children who like to swim in the heated outdor pool in the cooler months or take advantage of the kids club and other activities then this row is not for you (they offered it to us once despite insisting on our preference e-mail that this would be out last option. The 600's are the closest row to the centre and are the most requested, we have only been placed there once and that was the week after Christmas, the second quietest week for the resort. We like the 700's particularly the villas close to the old sheep pen where there are a number of picnic benches suitable for large parties who want to barbecue and congregate together. We have been placed most often in the 500's which is a nice enough place to be, easily within walking distance to the centre.

As for the townhouse layouts when our children were younger we preferred them to be on the same floor as us, now that they're older and we prefer a bit more privacy we like to have them upstairs. My wife also likes to have the upstairs terrace, I'm not particularly bothered, I prefer to sunbathe around the pool and be able to have a quick dip if I get too hot.

When we receive our preference e-mail I always list 600's, 700's and 500's in that order. If we receive a villa in any of those locations then I'm happy but even if it's the 800's or 400's it's not exactly a big deal, it's only the 300's that we'd be unhappy with.

The 300 street, there are 12 villas per pool. There are 3 blocks of 8 villas per block and 2 pools. All the other streets there are 16 villas per pool, with the exception of villas 711to 719 where those 8 villas have a pool to themselves. Never ever in 15 years have I been assigned on of those villas.

This reminds me Malcolm, for those who don’t know the resort well, quite a few of the many villa pools (including the one with villas 711 to 719) have a walk in shallow end.
These are perhaps ideal for families with children, less so for swimmers.

Yes, those pools are awful for swimming. I'm an early riser so I always make my way to the large hotel pool for a bracing swim, I particularly like the very deep end for diving. I have never encountered anyone else in the pool (I'm usually there around 7am) so it makes a good start to the day.
