Sheriff: Missing Couple Dead; Long-time suspect likely killed them from the Island Packet

Sheriff: Evidence Points to Gerwing in Calverts' Death- this Daniel Brownstein article was published in the Beaufort Gazette - it's the same article as above that appeared in the Island Packet. I included it here for interested readers to see some reader comments at the end of the article.

Sheriff says Gerwing considered Suspect in Missing Couple Case; May have acted alone - from the Island Packet. Again same info as in the previous two links, except this article has a link to Sheriff Tanner's news conference. I wasn't able to get to play for me but you may be successful.

I was able to play Sheriff Tanner's news conference from the link provided in my previous post. I clicked on the play button underneath the video rather than
the "play arrow" which was in the center of the video. It was somewhat frustrating to watch the video because I had to periodically wait for portions of the video to upload - it's about a 30-minute news conference with Sheriff Tanner answering questions from the news media.

An item mentioned in the news conference that didn't appear in the news articles - Mardi Gras Restaurant in Savannah was the restaurant Dennis Gerwing had a financial interest in.

Thanks for posting the links. I've been hoping for resolution. It's too bad that they may never find the Calverts. What a sad story.

Deb,

I'm still hopeful that the Calvert's bodies will be found. I had the impression from the news articles and Sheriff Tanner's new conference that law enforcement believes the bodies are buried off HHI. I don't think so - I think they're buried on HHI. One of the questioners to Sheriff Tanner during the news conference asked why it's taking more than 9 months to get results back from the soil analysis from dirt on the shovel and Dennis Gerwing's shoes? I thought the same thing - perhaps the results are already back but yielded generalized info rather than a specific locale.

Re the question of how an overweight, out-of-shape man could transport two bodies from the 2nd floor of the Club offices where the meeting took place - Sheriff Tanner mentioned during the news conference that the Club Group offices have an elevator and carts that were used by cleaning personnel.

Dennis Gerwing's home is located in Hilton Plantation on the north end of the island. It's a community with only two gated entrances that have security guards on duty 24/7. I wonder if the guards on duty the night of the alleged murders were questioned about whether they observed Gerwing's GMC Yukon entering the community and if so, it they remembered any timelines.

This is sure a puzzling case and a frustrating and disheartening one for the Calvert family and friends. I'm still hopeful for a resolution.
