We observed an 'interesting' lack of security on our flight home from Hawaii last week on US Air.

We boarded the plane from Maui to Pheonix. Both my DH and I had aisle seats across from each other. A man came on board and had the window seat in the same section as my DH (leaving the middle seat still empty). Soon, a woman came by and mentioned to the man that he was sitting in her seat. They compared tickets and they were both assigned to the same window seat. She says, 'Oh well' and plops down in the middle seat.

Shortly later, a young teenage boy comes by and looks at the seat and keeps walking. We can hear him say to his dad a few rows back that someone is sitting in his seat. So, instead of asking the woman why she's in their seat, they stand around for about 10 minutes and finally ask the flight attendant what to do. The flight attendant says that they'll find the boy another seat. No one even comes by to find out why this woman is sitting in the wrong seat.

It turns out the flight is completely full, except for a middle seat right behind me. So, the flight attendant puts the boy in that seat. At the same time, the woman asks my husband, what time it is and is surprised that we're taking off BEFORE the scheduled time. She asks my DH 'Isn't this the 10:40 flight?'. He says, no it's the 9:30 flight. It turns out she got on the wrong flight!

Anyway, we take off. Fortunately, both flights had the same destination.

On how many levels can we count that US Air messed that one up!!!!

Happens more than you think. That's why I usually hear after boarding "This is flight XXX to Podunk. If this is not your flight or you are not going there, now is a good time to deplane."

Not infrequently, someone slinks out the door.:D

I don't think it is a security problem since they will be on some airplane, hopefully the right one, eventually having passed the TSA check point. TSA doesn't really care where you are going, just that you have a valid tiket for that day.

Cheers
