We have been smoke free family for some time now. Our 13y DD lives in smoke free home all her life. I am wondering if resorts outside of the USA are smoke free or if smoking is in general allowed. We will be going to St Maarten for Christmas week 51. How do your children tolerate it? Any suggestion what to bring to deal with room smell? Thanks.

To answer your questions directly, if your children do not have Asthma or a specific allergic reation to tobbacco smoke, they will tolerate it just fine. You will notice it much more than they will. Room smell can be dealt with by burning some incense or odor eater candles available at Walmart or your local home goods store. Don't let this fear of a possibility ruin your anticipation and appreciation of a great vacation! We love St. Maartin, and so, we hope, will you!

And be sure to have lunch or dinner at the Tropicana located in Marigot on the Harbour! Best meal we've ever had... anywhere!

Cheers!

We are adamant non-smokers and usually know immediately when we walk into a room if someone has smoked there. I've been pleasantly surprised that I don't notice that stale smoke smell in the units at our St. Maarten timeshare (Divi). I know that people likely smoke in the units, so I can only think that it's because they don't have the same kind of airtight construction that is common in the U.S. now. It may also be that we've just been lucky to have been in units that didn't have a smoked in them the week prior.

Hopefully, you'll have a good experience where you stay, too. We also spend very little time actually in our timeshare on SXM, because we're out at the pool or beach most of the day or sit on the unit's balcony for meals or to relax.

Recently I started taking along 2 air fresheners in my suitcase to plug in when I arrive. I put one in the LR area and the other in the BR area. Just hold on to the screw tops that go on the liquid vials so you can close them back off till the next trip. I keep them in a ziplock baggie in my suitcase till the next trip.
