Hello TUG, I am new here just registered with the forums and signed up for TUG membership. I am very happy to have found this amazing resource.

My wife & I are just starting down the (apparently long) road of trying to divest ourselves of our timeshare. I read the ratings on SmartChoice (timeshareaz.com) and thought they might be a good place to start and get some perspective.

Unfortunately my calls & emails are not being answered. Anyone know if they are still operating?

Meanwhile I guess I will need to dive in with both feet and become an expert on a business I never really wanted to be in. :)

Cheers, -Heinz

Much obliged, thanks!

If anyone has recent experience with them in selling their timeshare I would be grateful for the info. The threads I've found are a bit dated (2 yrs).

Clarification Needed

Are you looking to sell your timeshares or close (get the legal paperwork done between you and a willing buyer/recipient)?

If you're looking to sell, then likely you won't need SCTR's services. Like most licensed resale brokers, they likely charge a minimum $1000 commission. It's probable that your timeshares are not worth more than that much on the resale market. Try to find out what yours are worth on the resale market

If you find that yours are worth less than $1000, then you're better off just selling them (or even just giving them away) yourself. For advice on what to do (and what not to do) when trying to sell a timeshare read this stickie post at the top of this page:

http://tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44

Or, if you simply want to just give it away because its value is somewhere around zero, use the free giveaway method here on TUG:

http://tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=132509

Now if you want to close (in other words, complete the deal between you and a willing buyer or taker), then you can use SCTR. They will charge around $300.

Also legaltimesharetransfres.com will do it for much less if you give your timeshare away for free (IOW, you don't need escrow service).

Thank you Lanny. I've been reading this site for hours and learning a lot. We love our TS, but getting ready to put 2 kids through college is forcing us to prioritize. :ponder:
