Slug Trap Success

For the poster who does not like duck poop, the introudction of slugs will get rid of the duck poop every time.

... yes, just for thinking of it you are evil.

I knew it. I just knew it! :bawl: Oh, the guilt, the guilt! (But at least I didn't drink the sluggy beer.)

Perhaps some of us - or all of us on this thread - have too much time on our hands? Or maybe we don't have too much time, but we're just trying to avoid using it more productively? :D

What do the slugs do that would make you not want them in your garden? We don't have any gardens (flower or vegetable). Just never thought of them as a pest. Are they really worth wasting beer on?

They eat our flowers and vegetables. They leave slimy trails on our flowers and vegetables.

Slugs and copper tape

I read in a gardening magazine that if you put copper tape around your planter boxes the slugs will not cross the copper. Supposedly, their slime and the copper generate an electrical current that is unpleasant to the slugs.

Could this be a source of energy generation? Maybe the same department that is studying cat/bread energy generation?

Wow, what a great idea! :cheer:

I think this might be even better than the cat/bread phenomenon, the energy uses of which remain largely theoretical.

Last week I was listening to a report on NPR about the electricity grid - I hadn't realized how important it is to keep it in balance. Slug farms could be a great way to ensure a constant supply of energy, and if there was too much energy they could just be fed some beer!

Good to know. We haven't used this form of a slug trap yet but I've thought about it. I hadn't thought about using a pie plate and didn't think about putting in in the ground slightly to make it easier for the critters to get in. I'll keep this all in mind.
We used to feed them to our koi. They were huge! The last one died when he was over 30 years old. Koi seem to love slugs and would catch them immediately when we threw them in the pond and swallow them whole but then we got new residents in our area and they took the job over getting rid of all the slugs in our neighborhood. We even had an opossum living in our garage for seven years stealing our cat food from our feral cat. He was no longer scared of me and I could even stroke him. He and our feral cat lived in harmony as she wasn't scared of him either. I wished they were still here but both have gone to pet heaven now.

Our resident for many years as he was injured so lived around our house.
