Skyauction question??

I have read many recommendations for Skyauction on TUG.

I have gone to this website on countless occasions trying to figure out how to use it and bid on hotel rooms in London.

All I can find is a stated price and added tax.

My question: Is this really an auction or do we buy their product at the stated price??

I would be overjoyed if someone can explain the workings for my poor old peabrain!

Some of their items are auctions and have a bid here button others are buy it now and you pay the price posted. We have had good luck with Priceline for London you may want to check out www.biddingfortravel.com most rooms in London only sleep two or three so if you have children going you'd have to get two rooms.

Some items are a fixed price and will be displayed as "Buy it Now". But most auctions go to the highest bidder. On those auctions you will see boxes showing the current highest bid. You need to enter a bid above that price. You can also enter a "maximum bid" figure which will be hidden from others. It will increase your bid each time another person submits a higher bid.

If you want to post here an Auction # we will be better able to understand your question and offer appropriate answers.

I have "won" a lot of auctions through the years at a great price. But not all auctions end with a bargain price. Some "dummies" bid it up to a price above what could be obtained through normal channels. You need to do some "homework" to determine what the going price is and keep your bids well below that price.

Skyauction is a pure SCAM!

We won a bid on Skyauction.com for a cruise in Fiji. We paid US$450 for a cabin upgrade and US$80 for transfers to and from the airport. Neither of these 2 services were given to us and upon our return, they ignored our e-mails claiming simply that they were “investigating our case”. This has already dragged on for 4 months and I don’t think we would ever hear from Skyauction again if we hadn’t gotten American Express involved, asking them to reimburse us. Even so, Skyauction’s claims are simply unbelievable, saying that we were given compensations like drink credits on the cruise. What a scam!!

Buyer....er Bidder Beware!

Hi. U know I have gone to Hawaii twice now on bids that I have won on Skyauction. Both times I was extremely careful to NOT overbid. I have also wasted more money than I like to admit by bidding on things that I won and then let expire. I have also been treated fairly by them. It took awhile, but I got them to reimburse me for a Dinner Certificate that I lost somehow.
You might get better success if you send them an actual letter to an actual person detailing your complaint. The CEO's name is listed on the website last time I checked. With an actual address in New York City.
