According to Gregs spreadsheet you'd get 3075 pts for you shadow ridge. It's pretty easy to rent extra points from Greg's site. You find find points going for $.50-$.60/pt.

Kath,

Steve is correct here -- you would receive 3,075 pts for your Shadow Ridge every other year. You could easily rent the additional 2,150 points you need for a week at Summit Watch (5,225 needed for week) for approx $1,100 -- or you could rent all the points for others that you need and keep your Shadow Ridge for use or trading.

Mountainside requires more points -- 6,900 for a week. Note that these point requirements are not for Week 7......those are more points (6,450 and 7,725 respectively).

Good luck with your consideration!
Best,

Greg

PS -- if you remind me in a couple weeks, I'll check the Week 7 availability for the Marriotts, I've found that, to date, they usually have the inventory.

Better yet just go 5 nights on points, Sun-Thursday will only cost you 3500 pts. You could pay cash for a room for the two weekend nights if you really wanted 7 nights.

Those two nights (Feb 10-12, 2012) are currently only $999 plus tax per night. No owner discount available. :hysterical:

You can, however, get the room for $650/nt if you rent the whole week and use the owner discount.

I think Lakeside Terrace in Avon, CO is a good cost effective alternative. It's a small resort of only 2BR units across the street from Sheraton Mountain Vista, has lower maintenance fees than SMV and most other quality resorts in the Vail Valley ($1,050 for a 2BR), gives you free access to the Avon Recreation Center which has indoor pools, slides, hot tubs, and has a free shuttle to the gondola at the Westin Riverfront and Beaver Creek. Avon is only 8 miles from Vail and right on Interstate 70, which makes it easier to get to from Denver than Steamboat.

Hi all,

Resurrecting this thread because I found an awesome deal for a SMV EY platinum week and bought it. I made a ressie for the last week of Jan (when my DD has a little 4d break from school).

I am going to try to book at 8mo at Riverfront or to Steamboat to be on the slopes but in case it's all booked up at the 8 month mark (likely from what I hear), I made the ressie and have a few questions to those of you who have been to Avon.

1) Is the shuttle from the Sheraton to the slopes a pain with ski gear?
2) Is there grocery and shopping nearby?
3) Are there some restaurants nearby that are ok for casual meals?
4) Can you spend all day at the slopes and eat there without having to come back to the villa?

Any other tips? Thanks! Katherine

Hi Katherine,

Congratulations. We stayed at SMV this past February (our first SDO exchange).

1. There is a skier express shuttle run by Avon that picks up skiers at the Comfort Inn across the street from SMV every fifiteen minutes in the morning. It has a stop near the gondola by the Westin and goes up to Beaver Creek. The shuttle runs less frequently mid day and then runs every fifteen minutes starting around three pm. In the afternoon, the shuttle stops on the SMV side of the street. We were there with our 13 year old and did not have any problems with our skis.

2. There is a City Market (western version of Kroger) about five minutes away by car.

3. There are restaurants that you can walk or drive to in Avon. There is an Italian restaurant (Ticinos?) that is a few minute walk from SMV. It was recommended by the concierge. We tried to eat there one night but it was full. It is small so I would recommend reservations for that restaurant. Except for lunch, all our meals but one were eaten in the unit. I believe dining in Avon will be much cheaper than dining at the ski resorts at night.

4. All our lunches were eaten on the mountain. There is a lodge at Arrowhead that is small. Spruce Lodge at Beaver Creek was very large with lots of food options. There are also restaurants at the base in the village that we did not try. We did not come back to the villa until we were done skiing.

Depending on how many days you plan to ski, it might be worthwhile looking at the various EPIC ski passes that are good at Beaver Creek, Vail, Keystone, Breckenridge, Heavenly, etc. If you buy during the summer or fall, you can get a great deal on a season pass (costs less than an eight day lift ticket) or a seven day pass.

Have a great ski trip.

Sam

Might consider whistler. The snow quality is better in utah and Colorado, but Whistler village is AWESOME.

Difference is if everyone in the family skis or boards, i recommend a rocky mountain location.

Whistler has as good or better skiing thab tahoe but a MUCH better atmosphere cause of the village.

Just depends on what you do. You can fly nonstop on allegiant airlines to bellingham from san diego. Then drive a couple hours to whistler. The drive is aewsome.

Recommend you do both vacations before you pick one. I would choose whistler over utah cause i love the international feel of the village. Utah can be pretty boring when you arent on the slopes.

I just got back from spending spring break in Avon.

1) No more of a pain that taking the gondola from Westin and then having to take a bus up the rest of the way, or just taking the bus from the Westin. 90% of skiers take a bus or gondola to bus to get to the main village.
2) City Market - A rather large supermarket within walking distance or a 2 block drive.
3) Most of the city is casual.
4) Yes there are a lot of restraints and small eateries in Beaver Creek Village

We stayed at Lakeside Terrace the first week of Jan and LOVED it. I have skied all over the US and go to Mammoth every year and Tahoe every other year and Beaver Creek is by far the best resort I have ever been to. You will love it and the kids will too.

Don't understand - gondola to bus ??? Unless you mean Westin Lakeside!! Gondola is right at Riverfront and about 300 yds from SMV across the tracks
We've skiied at BC for yrs and the Gondola has access to all areas of BC & Arrowhead. Never have had to take the bus up or down unless we are really really late coming down the mountain!

Bumping this a bit...

If I want to go skiing with my SO, what resort is the best? I have made a booking for Westin Riverfront Villas but now I read that Steamboat is supposed to be really nice as well...
Anyone have any opinions?

We are pretty young and we are definetely OK at skiing if that info helps.

Thanks for the help!

:cheer: Beaver Creek & Vail just a few miles down the road have great "Night Life":cheer:

I feel that Steamboat has adequate night life and is more family oriented! IMO;)

I'd go for the Wesin Riverfront. It's supposed to be very nice and is almost new.
