Has anyone tried the Skecher's Shape Ups or a similar shoe? How did you like them? I'm considering them, but would like to have some opinions from somebody who has tried them.

TIA

Nancy

Had mine for about 3 months and I love them. Didn't buy them so much for the "leg & tush enhancement" as I did comfort. A friend of DH's wears them on concrete all day at work and just raved about them. They allow me to go to an art fair or grocery shopping without coming home in severe pain (just can't stand on my feet very long anymore!). They are very, very comfy for me. I get teased about the apperance, but I don't care because they feel good. I got the black "work" ones and they do look like granny or ortho shoes.

Got mine at Shoe Carnival for about $99. I've heard K-Mart has them for about $40 (knock-offs) and Avon sells their brand for even a little cheaper.

MBT is the real thing that skechers knocked off and they are on sale at ts site (and others):

I have been waiting for the Mary Janes to go on sale.

MBT are much better -use to cost about $400 per pair but have come down a lot. I own both the both brands and MBts are more comforable if you walk a lot.

Just an FYI - I had to go up in size on the Shape Ups and have heard many others say the same thing. I'm usually a 10 in everything but my toes felt restricted so I went up to a size 11 since they don't make a 10.5 for who knows what reason. So you may want to try a couple sizes if you can.

I have the MBT sandals. Not much to look at, but great to walk in. Unfortunately I get blisters on my feet very easily with many shoes after constant walking, and MBT's are no exception. Not blisters on the bottoms, but on the top, near my toes mostly. I have to wear socks with them, which is not real attractive, or I carry lots of bandaids and cover the wear marks immediately as they show themselves.

I cannot speak for the skechers, and won't be buying them. I don't have good luck with skechers. I have high arches and kind of weak ankles, and I find that skechers don't provide the support I need. When I walk in them my feet turn inward, and it becomes painful. I also cannot wear birkenstocks or crocs, as both types cause my feet to hurt. When you go down the list of "foot problems" (bunions, heel pain, spurs, etc), I have none of them. Yet I seem to have a list of shoes that CAUSE pain and discomfort!

I'm like you, Laura, in that I have no "problems" with my feet, but problems with shoes. I, too, have high arches. I also have an extremely narrow heel and foot except for a regular toe box. My big toes turn up so as a kid made holes in the tops of all my shoes (!) I tend to get blisters because shoes rub in the wrong places due to my arches and narrow heel. sketchers don't fit, neither do Merrills. And don't even ask about ARMY (well, actually Air Force) boots!! I was a walking ad for Dr. Scholls pads.

I found a new brand last spring from Israel called NAOTs.

They are a little spendy, but they have some pretty sandals, and they are the most comfortable shoe I've ever had!! They became the only sandal I wore all summer, and still look and feel new. I wore them in Fiji (very hot and humid on the main island) and they were awesome. The crocs etc. are just too wide and loose for me.

I am experiencing these shoes too. I walk during my lunch break. That is my only work out. I thought it would be great if I can benefit more from the same walk;) . I tried the MBT shoes. You can find some from the Sierra Trading Post. They often email me coupon discount. I ordered half size up. It was not too comfortable for me though. I found it odd to stand on the rocking sole. Also these shoes are very heavy. Sierra Trading Post has the best return policy. Order from them if you can find the size/style you want.

Scrapngen, I saw NAOTs on HSN yesterday for the first time. They looked really intriguing, but I didn't want to spend that much until I'd heard more about them. Glad to hear you're pleased. I might just bite the bullet & get some. Truly comfortable sandals that aren't hideously ugly are hard to find.

I originally found Naots when I went in to Nordstorm to replace my 8 year old ECCO sandals that I loved. Newer Eccos all looked unfashionable. (to say the least) Nordstrom salespeople really know their shoes and suggested the Naots. I was a little skeptical about the price but needed them for my big Fiji/Australia trip and didn't like anything else as much. Like I say, my sandals still look brand new, and I have two daughters who like to go to the park and play frisbee. They also walked hours around Sydney, Australia through all the zoos and were still dressy enough to wear to the Opera House! No pain or blisters with hours of wear for days in a row... They have survived rain well, but I do try to keep them from mud, etc as I like them too much to want to test them out in that way...

This will be my second spring/summer/fall with them. I have also had conversations with other people who said their Mother/sister/friend bought them and loved them (so they seem to work whether you are older/younger/ heavier or not) but they still weren't sure based on the price... All the stitching, glue, etc is holding up perfectly so far on my pair and I got the burnt copper Rachel sandal. The color, even though it is slightly metallic, has also held up wonderfully!! They seem true to size, but w/ my feet I never buy online shoes until I've tried them on in a store first.

Go for it!!

I have been very happy with NAOT sandals. I have difficult feet and they have great comfort and support. They are really good quality.

I got MBT (as did DH). Will let you know after I've tried them awhile (and lost all the weight HA HA).

I just bought these a week ago

I just got a pair a week ago ( I too would get a half size up from your normal). I can't tell any "work out" benefit at all, but I bought them b/c my knees hurt when I stand and walk a lot and I had others tell me these helped. I only have a weeks worth of experience in them, but so far so good! My knees fell much better then normal......I wear them all day long everyday. So far, no need for Advil since wearing them. :)
I got mine off Zappos.com and they are like $100, but they looked cooler. I did find some off brand ones at Ross for $25.00, but they were not my size and they didn't look as good either.
I think you will like them if you have back or knee issues, but I think you will be very dissappointed if you think they will give you a work out. I have noticed nothing and have worn them for a week straight.

There was a news story on these type of workout shoes recently on our local station where health experts debunked any notion that these shoes give any benefit of a workout.

It was time for some new Earth Shoes.

If you still have the MBT's, don't give up on them. for the price you cannot afford to anyway. It took me a long while to get used to wearing them. I am finding that the older I get, the more easily I have vertigo issues, and these shoes were actually a problem in the beginning because there is no resting place on them.

Personally my favorite shoes of all time are Born. I can walk forever in them, and never get blisters or heel problems. In the summer months I swear by Merrill sandals. They have some very cute ones that wear like iron and feel good on the feet all day long.

Since we seem to have 2 different topics going here- I will first chime in on the NAOT sandals.

I bought my first pair while on St. John, USVI 3 or 4 years ago. I was unsure about paying so much. They quickly became my favorite sandals because they are so comfortable and (IMO) look much better than many of the other supportive sandals.

I now have several other pair of NAOT and can sometimes find them on a sale. They are worth the money. They really hold up well and feel so good. I have plantar fasciitis and have difficulty with sandals/flip flops.

My friend who has the Skechers says they help her back feel good. She did not buy them for the fitness, but she said she stands up straighter and her back feels better. She is generally fit, but recovering from a back injury.

Are any of these brands worth considering for feet that pronate (roll inward)?
Thanks
Anita

Anita,

I have a problem with supination (rolling outward). And yet every pair of Skechers I have owned or even tried on cause me to immediately pronate. Can't speak for the ones discussed in this thread though.

MBT's do not cause me to supinate or pronate. Cannot speak for Naots, though they have my curiosity peaked. I would much rather spend more for a good pair of shoes I can walk miles in for years on end, then spend lots of money on shoes that wear out quickly, cause foot pain, and cause me to supinate. I am anxiously awaiting my new Nike ID shoes because in addition to being able to custom design them, they are also designed to provide stability during activities that require lots of changing of direction.

I recently retired a pair of Born clogs that I had since 2000. Not a cheap pair of shoes, but a pair that has stood the test of time. They've been thru everything, and the only reason I had to retire them is that the sole finally split on one of the shoes. Actually I do still wear them, just not in rain!

I have supination problems also, and the shoe store I was just at last week(picked up a pair of Mephisto clogs 50% off) said Naot's wouldn't be a good choice for me.
