Is there a shuttle from Laguardia to Midtown? Or what is best form of transportation/cost.

For me, the "best" is to catch a cab from the official dispatch location. Easy to find, door to door service and assistance with the luggage. I do think there is still a shuttle but the one time I took one from the airport into Manhattan it took forever as I was the last person to get dropped off.

Here is a shuttle service I have seen mentioned:

You can take the LaGuardia Link Q70 bus (free) to the subway, Then take the 7 into Grand Central Station, then it’s a 2 block walk to Midtown 45 (assuming that’s where you’re staying).

The subway is far superior to any car service into manhattan due to the traffic, especially if you are arriving at a busy time of day.

The Q70 bus stops in front of terminals B and C.

If you want to deal with lugging your luggage around then the subway, with all of its stairs, or a bus might be "best". It will be the cheapest. At my age I'm willing to pay the extra for the convenience of door to door service and assistance with luggage. So there are different definitions of "best".

Indeed. On one set of opinions "best" could be taking a Blade helicopter transfer. It's certainly the fastest.

Bit of difference between a cab and a helicopter don't you think?

I agree with this, but on the other hand traffic into midtown can absolutely be obscene, and the subway station at Grand Central is accessible. I can’t understate how bad traffic in Manhattan can be and how long you could be stuck sitting in an Uber just trying to go a few blocks.

Oh I get all of that. But at 74 years old and with a husband with mobility issues we are NOT going to be dragging suitcases around, especially up and down stairs.

I’ll admit it’s’ been a while, but aren’t the major subway stations handicap-accessible now? I don’t think you’d be dragging suitcases up and down stairs.

Yes. A big difference. But the point was that the word "best" is quite subjective which makes it hard to answer the OPs question. Subway is the cheapest. But as someone mentioned you have to manage your own luggage which can be difficult for some. A taxi is the most door-to-door but has uncertainty in travel time from traffic. A helicopter is the fastest. All these methods are the best by some metric.

It's like asking which timeshare brand/car brand/university degree is the best - it's going to vary depending on what is important to the person asking.

From what I've read on the NYC TripAdvisor forum not all of the elevators are functional. It's kind of a crap shoot. I'd hate to get to one and find it out of service. That happened to us, but with an escalator, in Canada. Luckily we found a porter who lugged our two big suitcases us the stairs for us. I know we couldn't have managed it.

And if your stop isn't a major subway station you are probably out of luck anyway.

We have done the handicapped accessible version of the subway, and it isn't always easy. There are times when it is a very long walk to the elevator. There are also times when the elevators, to put it mildly, are disgusting. And then there are times when the elevators are non-functional, and there is a sign telling you which subway to get on in order to be able to get to ground level without stairs. :(

No one has mentioned safety as a criteria. Safety is important to me so we use the bus and subway. Much lower death rate than driving in a car.

Another criteria for "best". I'll take my chances in a car.

Have you experienced a ride in those NYC cabs? They are not safe.
Yes I have. My daughter and I have gone to NYC 3 times this year. We get a cab from the airport into the city. And we use a car service to return to the airport. Guess what, we're still alive. Plan to use a cab on our next trip in February. And my husband and I have used cabs each year when we've visited NYC. He's still alive as well.

Luanne - just throwing this out there I agree that taking a cab is definitely appropriate for your situation and or anyone one with mobility issues - one of the best things the former Mayor did was forcing the accessible taxi changes. Accessible taxi’s are readily available.

that said if the discussion is to Midtown 45 from LGA for the able- bodied - yeah the easiest quickest and cheapest option is Q70 to 7 train.

Mobility issues change that completely- the 7 line is elevated and both Q70 transfers have limited elevator options, although61st & woodside station has as escalator to mezzanine level . Once you get to Grand Central smooth sailing elevator wise- plenty of choices and work arounds.

@Fido Chuckwagon i agree transit is usually the better option-not just in Manhattan but all area airports as well.

I spent most of my career working on or around the 7 line, I a now retried w/ mobility issues- LGA is my last choice airport. For a multitude of reasons.
Last few trips JFK and the AirTrain.

I think one important detail we may be missing here is what time of day and what day of the week the OP is landing. There’s a huge difference between trying to take a taxi from LaGuardia to Midtown Manhattan at 5 pm on a Tuesday and trying to do so at 9 pm on a Sunday. And god help you if you’re flying in from the west coast on a red-eye and trying to take a cab into the city on a weekday morning…
