Shouldn't AARP members get much better deals?

Following up as promised. My auto and home policies are up for renewal, and they have gone up significantly from the prior year, so I am looking for something cheaper.

AARP uses the Hartford and I just obtained quotes through AARP’s website (priced as a bundle):

Current auto premium up for renewal - $880, quote through AARP is $1,206.

Current homeowners premium up for renewal is $2450, quote through AARP is $3,556.

And I thought my increases YOY with what I have now was bad. I think I’ll stick with what I got.

YMMV of course. Doesn’t hurt to at least get a quote.

Many public libraries have access to Ancestry.com for free.
Yes, but it's usually a limited version. I subscribe every few years to see if anything exciting has happened on my account!

Are you a Veteran? If so, check with USAA. I found them to be pretty competitive with the Costco numbers, but Costco still beat them a bit. Not sure why your policies are increasing so much. Those are pretty crazy numbers.

Not a veteran. My dad was a veteran and I looked into enrolling but found out that while children of veterans are eligible for USAA you can only enroll while the parent is alive. I started looking into USAA after my dad passed.

You know, it's funny you mention that. A few years ago I called USAA for a car insurance quote, and they asked if we were veterans. I said no, but that my husband's father was a WWII veteran and that he had died in the 1990s. The rep was like, well, let us see what we can do for you...and they did in fact give us the best offer by far, through Liberty Mutual. We saved some huge amount of money. We've since moved on to another insurer, but I still am not sure how we managed to get that great price through USAA.

AARP - I gave up my membership years ago and have never found any discount that would warrant joining again. I would like to be forgotten by AARP to avoid their frequent tacky mailings - they just make me feel older and dependent on them for assistance. AARP is just like a pesky mosquito.

I am a volunteer with AARP Foundation, the non profit side of the house. They try to mine our free tax filing clients by including three opt in consents - we encourage the clients to decline.

There are some worthwhile free benefits from AARP Foundation.

I am a volunteer also and same In our district. I myself simply tell the taxpayers they are going to get blitzed with mail if they opt in.
