Should TUG have a review system to make renting less risky?

I must say, I have rented on TUG and have had nothing but great experiences. I have met some very nice people and have never been ripped off. Fingers crossed .

However, I have read threads from folks concerned over renting here.

Do you think a review system similar to what they do on EBay would help reduce the risks?

I see this helping those who rent out their units by giving them proof they are legitimate and those who rent feel at ease renting from that person.

As has been mentioned before, the person renting can give their Tug user name and the renter can look them up and decide if they want to rent from them.

To add a review system here on Tug I am against. Simple the room not initially clean, the resorts fault, or the view can give someone a bad review, not something I want to see on Tug.

With a review system on Tug, people can get a false sense of security. Like any other site, fake reviews can be made.

I also don't see the need, and would not want to add more work to Tug for those that work on it vs visit.

It's not clear how a review system reduces risk.

Who is the one to write these reviews? The rentor, or the rentee? There could be renters with an ax to grind (dirty unit, late check-in, dumpster view) and hold the owner responsible. I don't see this adding more than just another layer of complexity. Unnecessary. We already have resort reviews and if renting from another TUGger, you can PM back and forth before consummating the agreement.

Just a thought.

What I do is have a short list of folks I have successfully rented from. Perhaps, that’s the best way?

There are some that rent out often and have a track record. I just thought those folks should be shared in some way. It may make their renter endeavours a bit easier.

Thanks. I'm not sure how to PM. Do I just go to your account and start a conversation?

I'm one that rents timeshares here on TUG, I can see the merits of a review system but it may not be needed if you follow the guidelines and look at the posting history of the person offering the rental.
I do appreciate the ratings and verification systems of some other forums (for buying and selling expensive camera gear)

To do a PM click on the user's name you want to send the message to. Their profile will pop up and one of the links is "start a conversation". Click that and you can enter your PM. When there is a response the little envelope to the right of your name in the upper right of the screen will light up. Click on that to see the response.

Yes, private messages in this bulletin board software are called "conversations".

See: How do I send a private message to another TUGBBS user?

For future reference, answers to most of your BBS operational questions can be found via the Help & Advice link in the blue navigation bar near the top of all bbs pages.
