I am considering purchasing a Sheraton Vistana Villages 2BR Floating Week (7-17, 23-34 & 51-52) resale which is located in the first phase (mandatory) of the resort and is worth 81,000 staroptions. Anybody got experiences or thoughts on using this floating week as a trader within SVN and II? I'm wondering if I should wait and see if any 2br lock-offs in the same resort pop up...

Within SVN, 81,000 SO's is the value - the resort doesn't matter whether it's Vistana or WKORV ocean front.

As far as II goes, what is the deeded week you are considering (assuming you could get Starwood to deposit the deeded week into II)? If you already have an II account, check the TDI (travel demand index) for Orlando.

I have a lot of experience with the secondary market (particularly at SVV). Can you tell me more about what your travel concepts are? I can provide pros and cons to help you make your decision.

Thanks. Each year we generally vacation anytime in March or April, perhaps even early May. We would like to trade via II to international locations and in SVN to Hawaii, Cancun, and Cali. locations, while use the unit 1 out of every three years in Orlando.

Maybe once in every three years we would like to take vacations during the fall months Sept, Oct, Nov. to any desireable location just to change it up.

Right now it is just me and my significant other so 1 bedrooms even work for trades, but 2br is preferable.

It's a floating week, but I think the deed says week 14. I don't have an II acount so I cant check TDI.

You can still look at the TDI on the internet....

SVN to Hawaii, Cancun, and Cali.

Starwood exchanges are different than an exchange company. To make an exchange, at 8 mos. out you call owner services and see if a unit is available at the resort you want, for the number of Staroptions that you own. The resorts are not "weighted" so 81,000 SO from any resort have the exact same exchange value. Except for holidays weeks, all of the areas you named above are doable, as long as you call at 8:59 a.m. ET, at exactly 8 mos. out, to make the reservation. Hawaii used to be more difficult, but now with 3 resorts open, it's far easier - especially if you will take any one of the 3 resorts.

The hardest trades in the SVN are 1) Westin St. John and 2) Harborside.

Yes - in Owner Resources: There is a Maintenance Fee thread where owners posted their own MF's and also on the Developer Price List, it lists maintenance fees.

I believe you have a good plan since you want to go to Orlando every three years and if it is during springbreak it might be nice to own there.

Here are some options/thoughts:

1. Purchase SVV around $7000 every year 81000 options and $950 MF

2. Purchase WKV 2 bedroom Lockoff 148,000 options EOY for $11500 and $600 MF yearly, split 2 x 1 bedroom use 1 to trade via II for next year use and one for Staroptions (81,000) at Orlando or Hawaii this year.

3. Purchase WKV 2 bedroom Lockoff and use for 2 bedroom ressie or split for 2 weeks and EOY purchase getaway week through II for Orlando

2a. Purchase WKV 1 bed premium platinum with 81,000 SOs for annual use.

And, with any purchase you can always buy a SDO, WMH, SBP, SPA, XYZ, or DOD timeshare and deposit in II for great trades... :rolleyes:

I'm not sure I fully understand how this would work. Could someone explain more fully for me? What's the advantage over the 2BR EY Sheraton VV Platinum (81,000) ?

If all you require for your vacation needs is a one bedroom, by following capjak's suggestion #2, you would vacation within Starwood (either at your home resort or elsewhere within SVN) every other year. The other years, you use the deposit into II of the other side of your lock off - that way you are vacationing every year for an annual mf of apx. $600. The advantage is in your annual mf payment, but it is only a good idea if your needs are a 1 bedroom. By the way, generally speaking, the Orlando resorts have the lower trading power within II.

Search this forum for II trades and you'll see many references to great exchanges. It's not hard at all to do.

Exactly. It also allows you to have 148,000 staroptions so that you can get a 2 bedroom anywhere starwood has a TS.
