I've searched, but I'm just not finding it. Is there a resort map that shows the layout of where the different types of villas are located? I'm particularly interested in the location of Mountainside vs Valleyside 2 or 3 bedrooms, but it would be good to know where the other types are as well. So far this resort has far more different types of units than any other I've seen, including amongst units with the same number of bedrooms.

It seems odd that a property with only 21 units has so many different unit types. Isn't this property part of the same building that includes The Steamboat Grand? Usually for small properties like this they don't publish a resort map. Have you looked at the different floor plans on Vistana.com?

Absolutely not part of the Grand. Across the street from each other.

No idea what’s the difference between units except the largest number are in the former hotel building. All of them are a short walk to the 3 base lifts.

Cheers

There are three buildings in all, joined together in a L shape. There is the main hotel room tower which holds the Hotel Room units. Attached to it on the east end is the East Tower which has your more traditional lockoff units from studio to 4 bedroom...one bedrooms top out on the 5th floor with 3 and 4 bedrooms on the higher floors, studios on all 8 floors with rooms.

Connected via the lobby is the Morningside building with has 2 to 4 bedroom units (I don't think any are lockoffs but not sure). These units are significantly bigger than the comparable units in the East tower. Morningside was sold as weeks before they stopped sales in 2008 during the financial crisis and didn't finished out the interiors of several floors. In 2016 or so they finished the construction along with the conversion of the hotel rooms into a slightly enhanced product and most all of it went into Flex. It's always been tough to get an exact layout of where all the units are at Steamboat.

In the East tower, the mountainside units are the row of them that face the ski resort base area on the far east end of the building...the rest are valley view (standard).

I stand corrected. Looking at a Google Maps search made it look otherwise. I looked on the map on Vistana.com to see where it was.

I have looked at the floor plans. It's dizzying how many there are.

From my last visit to the area (didn't stay at the Sheraton back then) I don't think it's the same building as the Steamboat Grand. That's actually across the street. I think Google Maps just has the pin in the wrong spot.

All the units that look square are in the East tower or Hotel tower. Morningside has all the ones with angles and the big square footage.

So, looking at the picture below, which building is which? I'm guessing Morningside is the triangle-ish shaped building on the upper-right? Would the non-lockoffs listed as Mountainside and Valleyside 2 and 3 bedrooms be there?

Correct. And the Mountainside units in the East tower are those differently oriented ones that you see beneath the words Saddles Grill. The white topped building to the left is the Hotel Room tower.

Thanks, that really helps me have a better idea of what I've got. Setting up a family reunion, I booked 1 three bedroom Valleyside and 3 two bedroom Valleyside units, all non-lockoff, so we should all be in Morningside. Might not be the best view as they're not Mountainside facing the slopes, but should still be a fun snowboarding trip.

One thing to keep in mind is that it says in the fine print that if you book a two bedroom unit (non-mountainside), they can put you in any two bedroom unit including the ones in the East Tower, both lockoff and non. That is because all the non-mountainside two bedrooms are the same cost in SO's whereas the 3 Bedroom you booked doesn't have an equivalent. So you could very well end up in separate towers. You'll probably want to call Steamboat and talk with the Rooms Coordinator in advance of your stay to see what you can work out.

Thanks, that is a HUGE thing to know. On my reservations page in Vistana it shows them as "2 Bedroom Premium Villa, Valley side" so I had assumed it would be locked in. Sucks that it might not be, but super helpful to know in advance to try to get ahead of it. How far in advance would you suggest contacting them? This is for Thanksgiving week.

I suggest calling them now to find out what the reality is that you might be facing later on...otherwise it will likely weigh on your mind. Maybe they will tell you that you will all be in Morningside for sure and then you can relax :) Just ring the front desk and ask to speak to the rooms coordinator. Often you have to leave a voicemail for them. Last year it was Xander but it seems to change a lot.

Sounds great. I really appreciate all the info.

Not the villas but here is a map of the amenities

We had a studio on the 4th floor of the hotel. Although the room was narrow, the kitchen was better than most TS studios. There was a couch and King but IMO too small for 4 adults.

Love that the resort is less than 70 steps to the gondola. I really liked this resort and would visit again.

That's one of the major draws for me as well, though I do just like the Steamboat area in general anyway. I've been on the grounds before to access the mountain and to eat/shop, just never actually stayed at the Sheraton or seen the units before.

Agree. Staying at this resort convinced me to search for more mandatory SOs to trade into this. My only hesitation is that it is at a lower elevation than Breck and may not have as good snow some seasons. This year was great.

I have Sheraton Flex points to get me there. I would probably buy a winter week resale if I saw the right kind of unit, but they almost never show up on the market.

Morningside was built as the timeshare tower while the other two buildings were still functioning as a hotel. They built the outer shell completely but only finished out a few floors inside before they halted sales and construction in 2008. Those few units were sold as weeks which is why there's such a small supply to begin with and even fewer on the resale market. When they finished out the floors in 2016 as part of the property's complete conversion to timeshare units, those new Morningside units mainly went into Flex (except for some event weeks) which is why you can sometimes book units in the Morningside tower through Flex/VSN.

Yeah, I feel I got lucky being able to use Flex to book so many Morningside villas at the same time. Speaking of which, I did manage to speak with Xander from Room Control just a few minutes ago. He said that while some resorts do move people around to different types of units than what they booked so long as the bedroom/capacity amounts are the same, Sheraton Steamboat does not do so unless there are extreme circumstances such as a unit being unexpectedly out of service and no alternates available in the same category. He confirmed that my bookings are in Morningside and that is what we will receive, again, barring extreme circumstances.

Not to hijack the thread, but we are hoping to take a trip here for next winter, probably sometime in mid-late February or early March, but trying to avoid Presidents Day weekend and winter festival. We are flexible on dates... is there usually ability to book at 8months out with staroptions? Or is inventory all used up by owners? Thanks!

As an indicator, 8 months out from right now (early January) shows availability using StarOptions, so I think it may be possible. The closer you get to Spring Break the harder it may be, but at the moment it shows availability for 7 night stays using HomeOptions in mid-February and early March.

Just in case anyone is curious in the future, here is a picture of the layout for the Morningside tower; Northwest "corner is the 3 BR Valleyside units, Ease side is the 2BR Valleyside units, and entire South end of the building is the 3BR Mountainside units. I know it's crude, my artistic and technical skills are nonexistent, but I cobbled it together as best I could using snips from Google Maps and the VSN villa layout images. I do NOT have the energy to figure out the other buildings.

IMNSHO. anyone choosing a unit for the view will likely be disappointed since either Mountain or Valley side will not have much of a view of either. Of course I’ve never been inside them except the former hotel units.

Cheers
