I own at the Sheraton Broadway Plantation and so I am familiar with their seasons and float rules, but I understand that some of their rules are not the norm. I am curious about the Sheraton Desert Oasis and so rather then assume that anything is the same I have the following questions and hope that someone can help (I can't seem to find a post that addresses this):

Are all the weeks floating even though some may be advertised as a specific week?
Are the seasons silver, gold and platinum or is red a season there? I have seen ads for platinum and red and I am betting that the red is an RCI or II code and not the resort.
Does anyone have a link to a resort map that can show the location of specific units?

Thanks as always!:hi:

All the weeks are floating weeks, although they are deeded to specific weeks. The original developer sold Sheraton Desert Oasis (SDO) as a 1-52 week float. When Starwood took over, they changed the remaining inventory to a 3 season float:

Platinum: Weeks 1-21, 50-52
Gold: Weeks 22-27, 36-49
Silver: Weeks, 28-35

They could not change the float designation on the units that had already been sold, and so those remain 1-52 week float. The majority of the units I've seen on resale are the 1-52 float. It can get a little confusing as they are often advertised as Platinum. So if you are looking at resales, you will want to confirm whether it is a 1-52 float, or one of the others.

There is a resort map available on mystarcentral. Since you're a Sheraton Broadway owner, you should be able to log in there and pull it up. Just go to the SDO section, and click on the "Amenities" link. Scroll down, and you'll see the resort map link.

Most of the Starwood owners post in the "Starwood Vacation Ownership" board. Perhaps a moderator will move this thread there?

Thank you Glorian -

I am such a newbie at the Sheraton Broadway Plantation - my first year is 2008 and I am using the reservation made by the previous owner so I have not yet had a chance to really explore their owner website. Stupid newbie trick!!:wall: But I will go there now!

Hey, no problem. Do come and visit the Starwood board--a few days there, and you'll quickly become a Starwood expert. :)

Thank you Glorian!!!

Thanks again for your excellent and timely advice.

Maximum flexibility is very important to me and so I used your advice to double check a listing on EBay and picked up a great deal on a 1 bedroom deluxe EOY:whoopie: :whoopie:

I selected odd years instead of even knowing how long it takes to close and the EOY-odd schedule will work very well for me.

Congratulations on your purchase! SDO owners seem to be very content with their units. I haven't used mine yet, but when I stayed at the Westin Kierland, I did drive over and look over the complex. I didn't see inside the units, but the pool area is very nice.

i own 3 weeks there. 2 units 1-52 and 1 unit starwood platinum. we have stayed there and it is lovely.it is quiet and the pool is wonderful.
mind telling us how much the eoy was?

Happy to.

I paid (or will play when closing is complete) $808.99 for a 1 bedroom deluxe EOY - odd, 1-52.

Both?

Although I have not yet received my deed, it is my understanding that the resort trades with both.

Don't the SDO units trade thru II or do they trade thru RCI?

SDO is dual affiliated. Owners can trade through/join RCI and II. SFX also accepts SDO deposits so long as they are for certain high season weeks defined on SFX’s web site.

Regarding II membership, it’s kind of tricky. If you buy an SDO resale, you must obtain your own personal account with II (or have a pre-existing one) before you can trade through II. If your resale SDO unit is then requalified/retro'ed back into SVN as part of a new developer purchase deal you strike with SVN, your annual SVN fee includes membership in SVN’s corporate II account, and your requaled/retro’ed SDO unit trades through that II account, not your personal II account.

What’s the difference you ask? A lot.

If your SDO unit is not part of SVN, YOU decide what resort (SDO) and week gets deposited with II. You reserve a week at SDO, and that’s the one that gets deposited. Higher demand weeks obtain higher trading power, so you can plan accordingly.

If your SVN unit is part of SVN’s corporate II account, SVN, not you, determine what resort (Yes SVN can deposit any SVN property on your behalf) and which week (yes SVN can deposit a summer week in Arizona or a mud season in the Vail valley on your behalf). This may adversely affect your trading power, and you are completely at the mercy of SVN.

As an added bonus, many SVN reservations agents don’t understand this distinction between personal and SVN’s corporate II accounts. Accordingly, even if your SDO property isn’t part of SVN’s corporate II account, many SVN agents will still tell you that SVN picks the week and resort, not you. This happened to me before I requalled/retroed my SDO. Upon further questioning, however, SVN did deposit with II my high demand pre-requalled SDO week that I had previously reserved.

I hope this makes sense, and good luck!

Piece of cake!

Thanks!

I am learning that like every other issue related to this industry, there can be a huge gap between understanding the process and understanding the logic behind the process.......think black hole......

Good information explained in an easy to understand way - Thanks!

Also, Starwood weeks deposited in II get a 'Starwood Preference' which means that for the first 72 hours that a Starwood week is deposited, only other Starwood deposits/weeks can 'see' it and confirm it. This also is the case if you have an ongoing request/search thru II - you get it first.
But different weeks/resorts definitely see more then others - so reserving and depositing a prime week at your home resort WILL make a difference in whether you can exchange into a 1BR in Hawaii or 2BR - the 'better' II deposit will 'see' the 2BRs while the mud week might not see it at all.

Can you tell me if your deed has been recorded ?

We bought a EOY SDO large 1-bed-rm on Oct 22 2007 in a Ebay auction & we still have not received our deed. We are in touch with the Title company & they just say that the docs are in the Recorder's office still & will be completed soon.

You can search the Maricopa County Recorder's office online:

They seem to have a pretty quick turnaround, and your deed should show up online within 3 weeks or so of it being sent in (assuming all was in order with the deed, of course). Ask the title company when they sent the deed in, and then check 3 weeks beyond that. If it's not in the system at that point, I would question them more closely.

Oops. Glorian beat me to it. After you have found the status of your deed, you can also use that link to find SDO's recorded CC&R's. Very intersting, in a boring CC&R document sort of way.

Here are a few document numbers to get you started: 1998-0094372; 1998-0112358

Burried deep within the pages of these documents is a discussion of Owners' "bonus time." It's fun to refer to the exact page number when you try to book "bonus time" with SVN, and are told that that program was "canceled" by SVN.

SDO is called the "Scottsale Pinnacle Condominum" for deeding purposes.

Good Luck,

It's Official!

Our deed was recorded and it is accurate!!!!!

Now if the good folks at Starwood would add this to my account, I would be very happy as I am close to the time frame for making my desired 2009 reservation (this is an EOY-O)

I am waiting since december for Starwood to add my new ownership to my account - do you know the previous owner of your week?
Because they are still in the system as the owner and Starwood will allow them to make the reservation you want and put it in your name.
A 'weeks' reservation doesn't cancel when ownership is transfered.

No I don't - bummer

But I am setting aside part of Friday for timeshare "stuff" and this will be at the top of the list.

OT but - I called Starwood this week regarding my week - the starwood person stated she would have to check with the deed transfer people and said they would call me - this was Tuesday evening - and I did not get a call.
But I just checked my online accountand my new week is there!

Now I can add it to my II account :whoopie:

Congratulations!!

Mine has not made it that far yet:(

Thanks Glorian & Nodge for your help.

We kept checking online and finally it looks like our deed record. I am not sure who is to blame Title Outlet or the County, but it has taken 4.5 months to close this deal.

Should I contact Starwood now or wait until I actually get the paperwork from the title company ?

sara

if you want to do something with the week i would call starwood if you know when you want to go. congratulations. it is a great place. can't wait to go there in march

Time marches on

Well it turns out that TCS has the deed and HOPES to send the resort notification to Starwood this week.

Very slow....I should have had them make a reservation while the closing was in process. They have done that for me before and it worked perfectly. In this case, they can't because I am on the deed but not in the Starwood system.

Oh well, since the week I am looking for is not one of super-duper spring weeks, just a normal spring week, I am hopeful that a 1 bedroom will be waiting for me.....
