We own at Club Regina and love staying at the marina in PV. Thinking of exchanging to stay at Sheraton Bouganvillas. Do they give RCI exchangers the worst rooms? Would love info on rooms, pool and ocean.

I used II and got a room that was extremely dated. Pool is nice but chairs are scarce if you go out past 8am (this was in January). I had a room overlooking the pool and saw people putting their towels on chairs as early as midnight -staff did the rounds at around 11pm and no one did anything about towels on chairs in the morning, no matter how long they had been there.
The grocery store is walking distance as are several restaurants.
I was there for 2 weeks and wouldn't go back. There's nicer places to go.

cd5 has the gist of it. The suites that I have exchanged into have been dated, using RCI. The worst part, the shower, which has a step over the tub for entry. If there are mobility problems, that could be a problem.
We've been given views out toward Puerto Vallarta, overlooking a public beach area. The chair hogs are relentless (we also went in January, early February).
The pool at the Buganvileas and the Sheraton are both available. The best part of the resort is its location to downtown PV and the malecon.

I’ve stayed twice via SFX, both units we’ve stayed in have been dated and yes pool chairs are scarce. The beach is bad in front of resort as well, very rocky. One thing it has going for it is the location, very close to downtown and the Malecon is a bit of a walk but manageable.

Exchangers are placed in the older building. The rooms are dated but ok. The rooms are clean. The beds are comfortable. The couches are cement with 4 inch pads. The TV is a decent flat screen. No deck. Kitchen has a full sized fridge. Microwave and two burner stove top. Mr Coffee type coffee maker. Toaster. Internet works well. Watching beautiful sunsets on the lawn in front of the bay is usually perfect. Plenty of places to dine on site.

The resort grounds are fantastic. The beach does have rocks in front of the Buganvillas Vacation Club but it's all sand in front of the Convention Center. Exchangers have access to the Convention Center property but the Convention Center property guests don't have access to the Buganvillias Vacation Club.

The big draw for us is the BVC is walking distance to many places including the Malecon. It's one of the few exchanges that doesn't require all inclusive. It's walking distance to many places.

I agree that there are resorts much nicer in the area but most of them require exchangers to participate in the All Inclusive at over $100 a day per person.

When speaking with a few other guests, I was told that Villa de Pamar was better - they had ended up at the Buganvilias because that resort was full when they tried reserving. Not all inclusive and in the middle of the hotel zone.

I kind of agree with your guest acquaintances that the Villa del Palmar has better rooms but it's too far to walk to Old Town and the Malecon, imo. I've been exchanging the VDP for the Buganvillias for the last few years. I like the pool and resort grounds better at the BVC plus we like to walk the Malecon in the evenings. I like the two restaurants in front of the Buganvillias. The sports bar for games and the Asian food place for sushi.

Yeah, the Asian restaurant was good. The breakfast buffet not bad either. I've never been to the Villa del Palmar myself, I usually go to Nuevo Vallarta and come into Puerto Vallarta occasionally during my stay when I feel the urge. I prefer the rooms and amenities at Vidanta when they don't have the sky-high resort fees on. I've been to Paradise Village too. When you only stay a week and have to go back to work after, I like to veg out and just relax.

I'm with you on the Vidanta resort fee's. In the past we always stayed in Nuevo Vallarta at Flamingos. It's a really nice resort but the last few stays were very quiet because the membership that stays here in the winter have decided they want to go to bed by 10 pm and wake up at 5 am to towel chairs. We started going to PV instead and there is so much activity which is what we like.

Even with the early toweling of the chairs at the Buganvileas and at the Vidanta NV resorts, we always find a palapa on the sand at both resorts even after starting out late (we're not early risers). That's our preferred spot for most of the day. Later on at the Buganvileas, after the early birds have left and the buildings shield the sun on many chairs, I usually return to the pool to swim. I really like the Buganvileas pool.

We like the pools too. We don't get to the pool area until after 11 am. With the Sheraton pool and Buganvillas pool open to us, we always found chairs. We learned the hard way not to sit under the trees at the Bunganvillias pool without an umbrella, lol.

I have just this year and next on my Buganvilias contract. We upgraded to the Sky suites in 2011, when they first started selling them. Before that, we had 4 of the older1-bedroom units in the "D" building that we used towards our Sky Suite 2-bedroom 3-bath unit. I now have the top floor end unit on the town side with a large balcony and spectacular view. It is basically two 1-bedroom units off of an entryway. One is larger than the other is smaller, but does have a small balcony. As a longtime member/"owner" with my Sky Suite bonus weeks, I do get an upgraded unit. I tend to book one of the ones ending in 79 or 80 while I am there for the next year. Those are not as nice as the Sky Suites, but are ocean front in building D and they have a nice balcony.

Only a few floors in Buildings B and D have been upgraded.

I will miss the Buganvilias once my contract ends. It is so easy to walk to several great restaurants and the Malecon. Like rpennisi, I hang out under a palapa near the hotel with my feet in the sand. I read my Kindle and sip my beverage of choice - super relaxing.

I do have two Vidanta Grand Luxxe weeks that I use each year too. They are "glitzy" and a nice place to take my friends for a "girls" trip for 4 senior gals! It makes for an fun and not too expensive trip since now that I am over 77, I do not have to pay usage fees and have lots of AA miles.

Yep, happened to us as well. Those chairs get bombed.
