Shearwater and Bali Hai

We are scheduled to go to Wyndham Bali Hai and then Shearwater next month for a few days at each. This is our first time to these resorts. Both are 2 Bedroom Deluxe Upper Level. Can you please make recommendations about units with the best view, beaches and/or restaurants, etc.?
 
At Shearwater, call and ask for any unit that isn't in the building with the clubhouse that surrounds the pool.

Cindy's advice is valid but I would also prefer not to have units ending in 11, 12 or 13. As a tug member you can access the resort reviews. There is a map of the shearwater units there in the resort images.

Bali Hai has no true ocean views. On goggle maps look up Princeville.

We are retired, and walk 1 1/2 - 2 miles a day on the treadmill. We don't do much hiking and have not snorkeled in years. We could do easy to medium hiking trails. We enjoy walking the beach, swimming, and taking in the scenery. We will have a car, so we can drive to scenic locations.
 
Remember on Kaua'i many beach locations are now by Reservation such as Ke'e (End of the Road Beach). Princeville is relatively flat and easy walking. I believe there are also restrictions on Waimea Canyon. There is only a 2 lane Hwy to travel from North to South. It can be crowded. Princeville to Waimea is only about 50 miles but it can take 1.5 to 2.0 Hours to drive. The worse section of Hwy is around Kapa'a.

In light of where you are staying the nearest walking Beach is Hanalei. We also enjoy Anin'i Beach. If you are able to get to Waimea Canyon take a picnic lunch, drive to the top without stopping, and have a picnic in the Park at the top. Then stop at the View Points at the way down. This is an all day trip from Princeville.

If you like Coffee visit the Kaua'i Coffee Planation. If you are a Costco Member Costco Gas in Lihu'e is the cheapest on the Island. If you drink Alcohol there is a Rum Distillery at Kilohana. Enjoy a class and get a Free Rum Drink. Though their Rum is cheaper at Costco.

Near Ke'e Beach is an uphill but relatively easy trail. At about 1 mile there is a nice view of the Napal'i Coast. Do not continue past the View Point. The Trail turns into a challenging downhill.
 
The touristy stuff is fun for sure. I also enjoyed finding a secluded beach with decent swimming and snorkeling. We saw a couple of turtles too. My girls found how to get to Sealodge Beach and we walked there from Bali Hai a couple times the week we were there. The trail is right off to the side of the driveway to a house. The trail is a bit sketchy if it is wet for a bit going downhill. And the cul-de-sac is the nesting spot for albatross. I've no idea if they come back every year or not, but there was a young bird there the year we were there.

We are staying at Bali Hai for the first time. The pools are very nice. Today we enjoyed a delicious lunch at an organic food truck in Hanelei - Fresh Bite Farm to Beach. I would definitely recommend it! We’re staying in Building 2 on the 2nd floor unit and it is quiet with nice breeze. Have a great time!

Oh, yes! We found this trail also - it's great. And I can tell you that 3 years ago the albatross was there in April.
